Did you take them with reloads?I haven't been at my bench in like 3 months. Hunting season absorbed all my time. 2 deer in the freezer now so it'll be time to dust off the press and start getting ready for bullseye league.

Not yet. I hunt nh southern zones so it's muzzle loader or shotgun for me. They did open the zone I'm in to rifles in 357mag 44mag 45colt this year.....I could use the henry lever in 357. Next year I plan to work up a 180 grain hard cast lead load and take a deer with that. That's a good test of a reloaders skills.Did you take them with reloads?
These went through a friend's automated CasePro100. (That's the slidy back and forth machine) It's funny that we say "roll sized" as the generic term for sizing before a press mounted sizing die like saying "Kleenex" for any tissue. Now there is a Rollsizer by name (around the carousel machine)Are you doing the rollsizing?
I shot Florida State a couple years ago and one of the guys i was talking to is the manufacturer of rollsizer machine. He’s from MD (if I remember correctly ), was there with his son in an RV. Interesting guy, interesting machine. Can’t justify cost for self. These went through a friend's automated CasePro100. 1:12 twist on the rifle?loaded a few rounds of 223 for a precision bolt gun. The brass is all LC22. I used Tac, Benchmark, CFE 223 and H335. The bullet is the Hornady v-max 40 grain bt.
Ignorant of anything to do with precision rifle...assumed heavier boolitz (77gr) would be preferred ?loaded a few rounds of 223 for a precision bolt gun. The brass is all LC22. I used Tac, Benchmark, CFE 223 and H335. The bullet is the Hornady v-max 40 grain bt.
Depends on the twist and cut of the chamber, also application. 40gr vmax at 3400fps sounds like it would do wonders on coyotes.Ignorant of anything to do with precision rifle...assumed heavier boolitz (77gr) would be preferred ?
40gr-50gr .223 Varmint rounds are my go to for predator control on our farm. You use 55gr FMJ on a coyote or fox and odds are it runs away after its hit. Which sounds insane, but I've seen it happen multiple times.
Any weight Barnes TSX or TTSX are excellent choices for one hit kills in any caliber.
Blowback. Not DI. Better off.Getting back into it after a hiatus. Gave loading a break for a while during hunting season. Got a deer, so back at it.
Waiting on a 45 caliber can and realized I dont have a host for it, so I'm putting together a 4.5" AR45 next week. First 45aarp, so I picked up some LPP and various powders to try out. Found a few hundred Berry's 230gr and 200gr under my bench. No clue where they came from. Ordered a few hundred XTPs too.
That's what I'm planning. Figure it's a simpler system.Blowback. Not DI. Better off.
Weird. I wonder what the reason is behind that? That's what I'm planning. Figure it's a simpler system.
Heard 45 ARs don't actually suppress that well either, but whatever. I just wanted an excuse to use the can.
Tried 4.4g of Winchester 231, Federal 100 primer, Federal cases, AR 148g JHP seated to 1.460" with medium crimp. I keep forgetting to run a fouling shot through the barrel, so the first shot always seems fast as there's still a little Hoppe's in there. But recoil was not objectionable at all and I was able to shoot about a 7" group at 25 yards. I could probably go up a little bit on charge weight with this powder.Hmm. Just ran 5 each through a 6" 586, and the Airweight 442. Chrono missed one each. Not really sure what to make of this. I ran them through the 586 first since it's a 357, in case it looked like they were to sporty for 38+P.
586 - 818, 825, 833, 799 fps - avg 819 sd 15 es 34
Okay, that's fine. So then...
442 - 861, 890, 938, 764 fps - avg 863 sd 73 es 174
Faster in the snub? It was unpleasantly snappy / flinchy in the Airweight, so I'll probably go with a lower charge weight of Titegroup for that bullet, will also try 231 and some other pistol powders I have that might be more suited to 38+P loads.
Made two changes at once, lowered charge weight from 14.5g to 14.0g, and used CBC brass instead of Starline. Ran a few fouling shots first before going over the chrono.Tried 4.4g of Winchester 231, Federal 100 primer, Federal cases, AR 148g JHP seated to 1.460" with medium crimp. S&W 442 1 7/8" barrel: 741 648 679 684 707 - avg 692, sd 35, es 93
Then I tried those same AR 148g JHP bullets in 357 with 14.5g of Alliant 2400, CCI 550 primers, Starline brass, seated to 1.590" with heavy crimp. I put 4 over the chrono into a paper target at 50 yards to gauge POI, then swiveled the chrono over a bit so I could run over it and put the 5th into a half gallon jug of water also at 50 yards and it pretty much detonated the water jug. Tried to find the bullet in the berm but no dice. Nice little fireball too. Same thing, first shot was a little fast in a clean barrel. Primers looked fine but it took a good slap at the ejector rod to get the cases out. I would probably go down half a grain if I were going to run these in a steel match so I wasn't struggling with ejection on reloads.
S&W 586 6" barrel: 1470 1329 1410 1373 1373 - avg 1391, sd 53, es 141
The Franklin Arsenal magnet stuck to the pole is a nice touch ;-)Making some improvements to my reloading gun room space. For a few years since building this room I had a two level surface which was ok when I was using the far right side for cleaning and tinkering. After getting another 650 I decided to mount it to the right of the older press. I'm going to get rid of the square deal and have a dedicated 9mm and .45 650s. I build a base to raise up the left table and that will be my cleaning space. A bit more organizing left to do.

I had a chance to put the AR 64 grain pulled JSP through a rifle this afternoon. Also put together a few rounds with Hornady 55g FMJs.Received my order from AR. The pulled ss109 barely have a mark on them. The blemished 55gr, well, they look new. Not sure what the blemish is, maybe a little deformity. Nothing I'd worry about.
Another recommendation for AR.
Try the H335 with the 55gr, I've always had good results with that combo, and hornady makes some nice projectiles.I had a chance to put the AR 64 grain pulled JSP through a rifle this afternoon. Also put together a few rounds with Hornady 55g FMJs.
Both out of a 16" barrel, chrono about 15 feet from muzzle. I loaded these on the Dillon including using its powder measure, instead of weighing and trickling up each charge. Pretty much the only constant here is the rifle.
AR 64g JSP, 24.0g H335, CCI #41, Lake City 2021 5.56 brass. 10 shot average 2608, SD 58, ES 183.
Hornady 55g FMJ, 25.0g A2230, CCI #400, Federal 223 brass no date. 10 shot average 2917, SD 42, ES 121
It was pretty cold at the range, I hadn't dressed warmly enough and was like okay let's get this done and go back inside! Definitely not in top form today so the group sizes for each were not awesome. I've shot an 0.8" group with that rifle with a load all tuned up for it, but today I shot 3.6" groups with each of the above loads. That's probably mostly on me this time. Mostly vertical stringing with the Hornady 55g FMJs, more of a round group with the AR 64 JSPs. I did keep the ammo and magazines in the truck while I was setting everything up to minimize any temp sensitivity of the powder and primers.
After groups and chrono, I put a couple plastic bottles full of water down at the backstop. The Hornady 55g... I shot one of the bottles and the only feedback I got was the cap came off. So I shot it again, and the bottle fell over.
Ran the 64g JSP at the other bottle, and it had a better effect. Not quite Hornady 50g Vmax level of detonation, but pretty good.
Went down to pick up my trash and found these:
