Well with in the M1 carbine accuracy and targetting specs of 5 out of 7 shots with in a 16x18 rectangle aiming at a 5” aiming black roughly centered.Pretty much same conditions and again resting on my range bag,
1945 Underwood carbine with my reloads.
Damn! Pesky barrel warm-up I didn’t account for.
Oh hell yeah I’m friggin Carlos Hathcock with it then!Well with in the M1 carbine accuracy and targetting specs of 5 out of 7 shots with in a 16x18 rectangle aiming at a 5” aiming black roughly centered.

Replacing that thin front sight with the .100" thick front sight helped me also. What you recommended. Nothing was loose, but I loosed up the screws, tapped the buttstock and tightened. I got some quality 30-06 as well so we’ll see how it works tomorrow.
Yesterday, 27˚ lots snow on the ground and one of my looong Swedish Mausers...had the place to myself. Replaced the front sight the other night with a +2.5 from a guy on eBay.
First shot is the 8 at 6 o'clock, raised the rear sight a little (too much) and the second shot the 9 at 12 o'clock. Again a slight adjustment to lower the POI. Wasn't much wind, but my old arthritic hands were freezing. These were shot from a front rest only, don't know why but I can't seem to make the rear bag consistent...just used it for a rifle pic. The last 2 pics are with the reloads I made with some old Reloder 12...34gr. and finally 35gr. Shot those pretty fast using stripper clips, just wanted out of there as I was freezing![]()
I think we should all bring swedes if you have one. I know Im shooting at least 1 match with mine before I sell it!Great shooting and that Swede's a beaut!
I think you need to bring that to the next OCSA vintage match.

I frequent the same place and love that I'm usually alone. It's a great place!Yesterday, 27˚ lots snow on the ground and one of my looong Swedish Mausers...had the place to myself. Replaced the front sight the other night with a +2.5 from a guy on eBay.

You see this oftenJust got done cleaning up from my range trip this morning and let’s just say I’m a happy camper. My 03A3 performed much better. Not sure if it’s due to the tweaking or from the factory Winchester 150gr hunting rounds. Probably a mixture of both.
It was a balmy 23 degrees with a light, but brisk, breeze. The range was also fully covered with snow. Luckily someone had already blazes a path for me to follow out to the 100 yard line.
I shot at 4 targets and overall the accuracy was the same for the first three of them. I was very much concentrating on each shot with the first three. Even the first target with a cold bbl was good. What really surprised me was the fourth target. I was just ripping off ammo without concentrating much and not checking where they were landing. Go figure but it’s the best target of the day. Couldn’t believe it when I finally checked through the spotting scope.
Fun day.

Occasionally I will do that- score better in rapids. I need to remember to bring a timer that I can see better than my G-Shock. I'll pace myself better in slow fire and also take a moment between shots to rest my eyes, assuming all is going smoothly and I'm not fighting to score well. When I do what I'm supposed to do, I'll score 98+ in slow and 96+ in rapids. Then there will be times when it goes fubar. You see this often
Alot of times at CMP shooters will shoot better groups and scores during rapid fire than slow prone.
I was told by a good shooter its the bullseye gaze effect meaning your “trying” to hard .
Hard to find right now but try some Federal GMM when its available again
Got out today, unloaded some random ammo to a NES'r. Brought the last of my reloads i have been running in my 308 M1 and RockOla M1a
168 Nosler CC , H4895 , 2650 fps out of the M1a.
Used them in the Mac-98-Mauser 308
i dont think they shot as well as my 155 gn loads i tested with before. POI really shifted though .
I used SR 1 target centers and was off a tad.
Out to the 5/6 ring
Figure about a 55 for a score. O well. The swede and swiss are next.
i put a full size SR 1 over it and figured about a 55/100

Your lucky I brought the K31 but I grabbed the wrong ammoHey mac- Great group but I beat your score with 40% less ammo!

Before anyone gets defensive for @mac1911 , we know each other.
Above target shot with the K31, six shots. First shot was the 5:00 in the 7-ring. First through fifth shots with factory PPU 174's. Last shot was a home brew SMK 125 and Varget if I recall correctly. I'll shoot this in the Leominster offhand match tomorrow, plus another round with this:

98-1X. This was shot with the 1903 National Match. Old stock SMK 168's in the old boxes with the perf metal edges. I weighed and measured them and they are considerably more consistent than any new ones I have bought. (Thanks @wegman ). Upper and lower shots were first and second from futzing around with the sight elevation. I forgot to bring my sight micrometer and had to swag it. I'll give it a +1 MOA adjustment with the micrometer before also shooting this one in the match tomorrow.
Mid 20's at the range and our plow service has very nicely cleared a path to the 100 yard berm. Snow's pretty deep now and we may get another 5" on Monday.
Better pics-Went out again with QH 30 M1 Carbine the other day. First target had to do a couple sight adjustments. Second one I held the black and threw an 8 on the third, was losing the light somewhat. 23* when I first got to the range...
Better pics-
Nice, good to see a M1 carbine shoot well.Better pics-
If you can think about itI can't speak from firsthand experience, but I understand the M1 carbines are tough to shoot at 100 yards. Great shootin'!
Until covid last year I would see him at Camp Ethan Allen every year. Great guy and I've picked up a few solid tips from him. I'll have to pick his brain a little about the carbines next time I see him. Thinking about Perry this year and he's usually at the top of Camp Perry results. If you can think about it
Next time your out at Granby ask around about Mike Williams been in the top 3 of the Carbine match at the nationals for years
Looks like he did well in vintage sniper 2019 also. Oh hes from MA
Lots of top shooters from NE show up on the cmp/nra nationals top 10
Russian factory refurb SKS. It’s either a ‘53 or ‘56 I don’t recall.
decided to use a cheap plastic bipod this time.
32 and light snow.
