AR-15 thread... I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Very nice setup. How does the tall mount work in prone?
I've only got a couple mags through it, about one mag was in prone and in my opinion it works fine for me.

Honestly If I was putting together a 20 inch DMR I'd probably go with a traditional mount for a more concealable position.

I had the mount ( ADM qd ) on a 14.5 but repurposed it to the new 16 here, It just came in the mail.the other day but so far so good

👍 👍
That is always my question when I see setups like that.

Maybe some people’s faces are just shaped different, is what I’m wondering. My face can’t get a proper cheek weld in almost all positions on a higher mount. Some types of shooting works really good from what I hear with higher mounts. I’m more of a bench or laying prone with a scope guy so that’s probably why higher mounts don’t work for me.

As I said I plan on giving it some range time to really get a more proper feel for it, I focus on prone for sure

I can see it being a negligible difference but possibly not.

I tried the higher 1.93 mounts for my red dots which really works well for me but being honest it's not a huge deal either way but I feel I have a more proper or better line of sight when moving and shooting.

If you want to see ridiculous, check out GBRS group with their high mounts, they are legit operators but damn those mounts are crazy high and I think it limits them to CQB

That’s really cool. I don’t think your mount is obnoxious at all. I’ve seen some crazy ones. Yours looks like it can be done, and I was just wondering if there was an adjusted cheek weld style position that I’m unaware of that would give you prone plus the benefits of a high mount for closer in shooting and moving.

I reluctantly hit it today for a bit. I'm.showing a picture of me in prone so maybe you can get a reference on how the higher mount looks to you.

The steel was 100 yards away. Group sucked but I'm.blaming it on the target swinging a bit after impact, still all kill shots. I definitely felt ok, it's too hot today but I will set up a more solid target for a better report next time IMG_20240625_161950981_HDR.jpg Screenshot_20240625-163921~2.png

That actually looks good to me. Felt comfortable? Thanks for sharing and keeping us updated.

Being brutally honest as I try my best to be, I can't say I noticed a huge difference with the higher mount as previously with standard height mounts however kneeling against cover or sitting at a shooting table I'd say I prefer the higher mount

The bipod deployed with the 30 round mag was legit the part that I had to make the most adjustments for, if I were to go prone for an extended amount of time I wouldn't deploy the bipod and I'd jam a 20 round mag in there instead, I would have tried that today but I didn't have any of my 20 rounders with me.

Good conversation, glad you commented

I’m totally with you on the 20 rounders for prone and even off the bench. And it’s surprising when you look at how much shorter they are for ten rounds less. I’d expect them to be ten rounders just looking at them. It’s cool that you’re trying all different things out and seeing what works best. Everything is a compromise, and it sounds like you’ve found a set up that works well for a variety of shooting styles. Thats all you can ask for an all around set up.

Put together quickly tonight but I need to level the scope.
Thought I had it all lined up, torqued it down looked again and it’s cocked. 🤣
Need to stop by the range after work this week to zero before the carbine class in a couple weeks.

Little update on the Bipod

I took it off, as much as I wanted to make myself like it it's more beneficial to not have it on.

If your ever interested in trying it out let me know and I will lend it to you to give it a whirl

Harris 6-9 lives on my main rifle in a badger ordnance LPHM. Granted this setup is more of an SPR, but i genuinely love the setup and its probably my #1 go to gun. If you're planning on using a bipod in the prone a lot id suggest going with 20 round mags so you're not forcing your upper body way up off the ground and can properly lower the stock for elevation.

I think I’d be in the same camp as you on the bipod. I like them on bolt guns for range fun. Haven’t tried them on an AR15, but I think the benefits do not outweigh the drawbacks for most applications. Most. I’m sure there are some applications where it makes sense. Thanks for the offer!

I could never get myself to like bipods and i tried quite a few on different rifles.
They are in the way when you are not using them.
They add weight
When you want to use them, it is either set too high or too low and by the time i fussed with it enough i lost my shot (at game). My backpack is more versatile.
