Bass pro tracking ammo now

So what happens when you tell them you don't want to answer some of those questions like occupation? do they just tell you to hit the bricks?

And has anyone had anyone else ask them for this yet? Almost want to try it out to see what happens.

Why do they need to capture this info again? I saw them with all the cases when I went a few weeks ago bring primed for locking stuff up only they were still open, well the good thing is it means I don't have to drive to that place anymore

Yes. They’ll tell you to hit the bricks. They’re doing it because it is now codified law to ask such questions. Every single store selling ammo in MA will be asking the same questions.

Admittedly, I didn’t notice this paragraph before.

“ (h) The licensee shall make and keep an on-site or electronic record of all firearm transactions and said record shall be open at all times to the inspection of the police. Before transfer or delivery of any sold, rented, leased or otherwise transferred firearm or ammunition, a legible entry in the on-site or electronic record shall be made and kept specifying: (i) the complete description of the firearm and ammunition transferred, including the make, serial number, type of firearm and designation as a large capacity firearm, if applicable; (ii) whether the firearm or ammunition has been sold, rented or leased and the date of such transaction; (iii) the license, permit or card identification number of the person acquiring the firearm, or ammunition along with their sex, residence address and occupation; and (iv) the purchaser, renter or lessee’s name as personally written by said person in the sales record book and as confirmed by valid state or federal identification. This subsection shall not apply to a gunsmith with regard to repair or remodeling or servicing of firearms unless said gunsmith has manufactured a firearm for the purchaser but said gunsmith shall keep records of their work together with the names and addresses of their customers.”

I raise Camels , that’s my job. Prove me wrong.

I get that it is part of the new law, but again has there been any explanation as to why they are asking people their occupation?

Also they are having buyers fill this out, so what if you write a no, slash, or just employed in the occupation field.....is a place like Cabela's really going to question that?

because it's in the law.

they're going to comply, because that's what keeps them in business.

if you want the state to answer, you'll be waiting a bit - they still don't actually understand what they published.

it was the last one, and kind of figured, but didn't know if someone might have had thoughts as to why they are tracking occupation....and again what the shops will do if you give some super generic or non answer

someone wrote it for them. they put it in there because, "why not?" there's no good reason to track any of this, so they'll never give a good reason for occupation. "oh, there's no way a [occupation] can afford/needs that much ammo; must be up to no good."

clearly, we're all occupied as firearms testers whenever we buy ammo in MA

You’d have to ask the legislators that…. Or “anytown for Bloomberg’s gun seizure”

They’re the one’s who wrote the law to include recording occupation. Bass Pro is just trying to implement the actual text of the law.

Edit: corrected autocorrect

A local gun shop to me posted this.

It absolutely infuriates me that we have to do this now, and I am REALLY sorry that we have too, but we are now going to have to record all ammo purchases.
Just so you all know what to expect. When you buy ammo now we are going to need to record.
Ammo Brand
Rounds per Box
Number of boxes
LTC Number
Name
Address
Occupation
Failure to record this information will result in me losing my dealers license for no less than 10 years, a fine between $1000 and $10000, 2.5 - 10 years in Jail.
The Police are now required by law to do yearly inspections to confirm that I am doing this.

The fact that the NRA is not focusing 100%of its resources to pounding Mass into the ground is troubling. Mass has become ground zero. Allowing the state to get away with everything they are doing is setting precedence for every other state.
The NRA is an organization still deeply in crisis. I'm not expecting much out of them for a long time to come. :(

On the other hand, there are healthy, awake, national level pro-2A organizations out there. I know because I contribute to them monthly and follow them. Some of them have been making noise here and there about Massachusetts, but where are the lawsuits? The law is law now. How much longer are they going to wait? 🤔

Yes, I am an impatient old fart. 😑

sucks that they passed the enforcement of this on to the shop owners, so if everyone adds some BS text of checks the box of non binary do they get penalized for that? with Bass pro or cabelas who cares they can eat it....but for the good shops this is a huge bummer

I will never buy ammo in this state again. Any trips I take up north I will just stock up.

That’s part of the state’s plan. Reduced sales at dealers means fewer dealers. It’s all added hurdles to discourage ownership and also put gun stores out of business.

You can be certain that in anti-civil rights towns, the police will crack down on these inspections to kick shops out if they don’t want them there. Any small infraction of clerical error and boom, revoked license.

You are right but I'm sick and tired of giving more information to this state

For me it will depend on if the dealer uses an electronic system or paper. The more annoying and bothersome they make it for the police inspectors, the better.

But I generally don’t buy from local shops anyway, purely due to them rarely having the specific ammo I want.

Also, I was just re-reading the law and don’t see any timeframe for how long they have to keep these records. Sweet Jesus.

Prefect!

"Corporate policy is to destroy all records after 4 weeks, except as otherwise required by law"

At least it's not like California yet. Is it still background check for every time you buy ammo? Do they charge exorbitant FFL fees for the "ammo transfers"?

If there is no minimum time limit, then they should do this: "Corporate policy is to require all customers to insert the document into a paper shredder at checkout, however if you wish for an employee to do it for you; you may call for assistance."

Unfortunately, that was the intent of the legislation.

Yep. This is going to work exactly as the anti-2A scum designed it to work... i.e., Put the smallest gun shops in MA out of business permanently.

Yes, I am an impatient old fart. 😑

The law just turned 2 months old, and up until a week or so ago there was a chance to stop it.

They couldn't file lawsuits before it was passed and preparing before the final bill was signed didn't make much sense since things could change.

Now that it passed it takes time to prepare and decide the best strategy. This bill is so complicated it can't be attacked all at once.

I'm not too worried right now because I'm prepared and would not need to buy anything for a long time
Plus I will be out of the state soon enough
With all the nonsense in the law, I'm surprised they didn't add a self-reporting requirement. I wonder if the NH outpost store is going to start reporting for MA buyers since they seem eager to be part of MA's enforcement team.
