Best pistol caliber?

I gotta be honest, I hate the ported big bores. The concussive blast to the shooter, and anyone within 30 feet of the shooter is as bad as the bubba'd tank brake mosin @kingson has at his MG shoots. I was around that damn thing all day, and I still jumped every time it shot, and this was the second time.

@Agnotology I jump pretty much every time it's shot too.

it's not enjoyable, and I'm the first one to admit it. It turns what normally would be an enjoyable day at the range into a bad and short trip. It's not a good gun when its purpose is reduced to being a novelty that quickly wears off.
I absolutely 1000% disagree

I’ve been shooting since I was a kid. It got boring. Competitive shooting got me hooked again.

But. I seriously love to shoot new calibers, weird guns, unique things…

I won’t out the people and opportunities I’ve gotten from making friends here, but it’s been a trip.

These are the things that made shooting fun again.

Poor phrasing on my part. I meant that it is a gun that is not enjoyable to shoot a lot.

I can easily burn through 300 rounds in an hour or 2 of just my canik. I can't do more than 1 or 2 cylinder's of that 460

Wuss!

I get it.

I took a well know member to the range to shoot my 3” combat .44 mag. He was nervous, then he got aroused.

??

Either the comp made you piss yourself or the recoil, you pissed yourself.

Pick one.
the comp was annoying, the recoil was disappointing. I piss myself regularly without external stimuli. benefit of depends.

I'm down bad with this 1 month cough thing going around. so forgive if my quips are lacking their normal ... eloquence? snark? humor? i don't know. Just come here and let me cough on you.

There is no doubt in my mind that the .40 S&W is superior to the 9MM in every metric.

Any law enforcement agency's decision to issue a specific handgun chambered for a specific cartridge reveals very little useful information. It's not an agency's handgun or choice of cartridge that provides useful data. It's what its cops choose to carry that provides useful data.

With little variation, law enforcement agencies issue a standardized handgun chambered for a specific cartridge. Cops are free to carry handguns chambered for cartridges from an approved list. Hence, Green Acres PD might issue Glock 17s chambered for 9MM, but its cops might choose to carry a Springfield Armory TRP chambered for .45 ACP.

I roll with 380. Carry with any attire
Not enough oomph. If the target is wearing a Carharrt with a couple of layers underneath effectiveness is greatly reduced. Mostly the choice of recoil sensitive, feminine shooters. The granny caliber
biggest bang for the buck...44 sp.
Worked for the Son of Sam. Totally underrated caliber. Through my model 29 with the 6-1/2" barrel it's like shooting 22. But still a big ole piece of lead
Where is 357 Sig?
Still on the shelf. No one shoots that.

Old school thinking is that your carry caliber should start with a 4. with the exception being 357mag. But 9mm ammo has come a long way so it works.

When you consider what the pros/cons are for the guns, there really is no best or worst caliber. NES can hate the power of calibers like .32 and .380 relative to .38 or 9mm, hate the lack of being easy to find or cheap, but any gun in any caliber is better than no gun in 0.00 caliber.

The boys on my social media decided to make fun of me and replaced Gun Jesus with my avatar and .32 S&W. But you know what? I love it: .32 S&W, an elegant caliber of a more civilized age.

I’ll stay with my 380 “granny “ caliber that I carry and shoot all the time rather then one of those monster pistols that are in the safe 99.5%of the time

My Bersa Thunder 380CC kicks like a mule compared to my HK P30SK in 9mm. Those old blowback pistols like the PPK or P232 with the spring around the barrel sure look nice but man are they outdated and horrendous with respect to power delivered and sharp recoil bark drawbacks.

Luckily non-blowback 380s are more common these days, like the P365-380 and the S&W Bodyguard 2.0.
