Bipod advice

Just picked up a MPA 6.5 cm. What are you all using for a bipod?
Med-Long range steel shooting
Will you be shooting from a a bench or ground.
I have both atlas and Harris there are minor things different about them .
The Atlas is from 2008 when I believe they only had one option 45’ legs swivel and cant
The harris I have can only cant. Not a deal breaker if your shooting at targets straight ahead.

The tension/locking mechanism
If your going to pre load your bi pod atlas cant , well tou can but its sort of sloppy and I dont trust the small stops. I dont really load up on the bi pod as my stocks are not really built for that. The harris feels like if I shot a lot and constantly pushed on the legs somethings going go wear/break

Note: I find myself using bags far more often than bipods.

These days there has to be more options

Im also not dressing a $3000+ rifle , lol

Matrix Pro
Cool kid rifle , lol . You need a MDT or a Tier One. Wait cool kids use tri pods now.

Im just busting balls. Im happy there are people that have that kind of money to toss at rifles and gear.

The few shooters I see with these crazy chasis rifles have them mounted on what looks like machine gun tri pods , lol

Heck Im going to tell you to sling up and use a bag under your supporting arm , lol

Now dont be that cool kid that comes back here and asks whats the best cheap ammo for my 6.5, lol.

I live vicariously through many here. So keep us up to date.

Right now there is a sale (no shipping cost) on Harris for $78 (+tax). Harris Engineering Sporting Solid Base BiPod Up to 23% Off Plus Blazin' Deal w/ Free Shipping — 3 models

This is my first bipod, so I picked one up.
it is usually a simpler approach to mount those permanently on ARs and speaking of harris - those are cloned relatively ok in chinesium, if you want to get, like, 8 of them. they mostly do not break.
like this model will do, and for that price you can beat it, paint it, etc all you want.

downside with all of them - you cannot really apply pressure as legs will slide.

good atlas is worth buying real one and paying for it, as all known clones of atlases suck, and break legs off. you also need to check for legs to be non-rotating by design, otherwise you will not be able to press rifle forward into bipod. but, no need to buy a lot of those, one good one will last a long time

Ordering a Harris bipod that attacheds to a pic rail. Would you go with quick release or the regular one? The regular one looks like it uses a knurled bolt that you can tighten by hand. Just wondering if the quick release is solid.

This is the non quick release version.

I wouldn't use a quick release for a bipod. Unless you have enough additional rifles that you want to quickly shift it over to, it's really not needed. The knob has a hex bolt head exposed as well. So just get a wrench for whatever size that is if you want to move it between rifles.

there is a new (or not so new, but i just found it) chinesium $60 offer on amazon, and it seems to be decently well built.
difficult to say what they stole it from and what was the original, but it appears to be decently sturdy and does not look at a first glance that something may brake off right away.
ymmv.

Atlas.

But honestly, if you can't 360 no scope, what are you doing?

Adding ...

Welcome to the 6.5cm club. Have a few empty bottles of gun lube on hand to collect all the tears from the 308 owners hating on the superiority of 6.5cm.

I'm buying more cheap 70 cent a round turkish.308 just so you can hear the turrets spins.

6.5cm is a great round. They did a great job with that round.

I posted pics, it will go through a deer at 375 yards.
But will it go through a tree, the school behind the tree, then through the deer behind the school?

From what I know of the general New England area, the chances of you finding a place where a 308 round won't be effective is pretty slim. Besides, with my eyes, I'd need a MONSTER scope on top of a rifle in order to feel comfortable shooting out to over 300 yards. :D

There is more to the world than NE.

Like everything, when selecting a weapon, optic and cartridge for hunting, someone should consider where they will spend time hunting. If you want a do it all bullet, the 6.5 can get the job done here and in Wyoming.

When hunting, I spend 100% of the time outside New England.

I have a couple of Harris bipods. No issue with them so never felt need to trade up. My long range PRS rifles have Acra rails and I love being able to position the bipod where I want. That said I use front bag 80% of time, bipod maybe 15%.

My brother gave me a Caldwell bipod. It was worth what I paid for it. In appearance it seems identical to Harris, but not even close in stability. Piece of junk.
