Emergency Preamble to be signed Weds?

I wonder when she will come up with a mag restriction. Meaning the number of mags you can have on your person.

I'm calling it. It's the next move. Can't have you lunatics running around with more than one of those eight round mags. We've all seen how fast you all can reload.
That's going to be used in court to show you are unhinged and unreasonable.

Is there another source that confirms this emergency preamble, aside from a single YouTube video made by a gun store? Seems like a ploy by gun stores to get people to panic buy so they can sell out their inventory,

Several other FFLs and and firearms attorneys are also stating it is likely.

So it wasn’t an emergency back in August, but now suddenly it’s an “emergency”, just because people are speaking out and is having a petition against it? Sounds like tyranny in it’s purest form.

Pretty much. Anything the legislature doesn't like is an emergency.

Why is she doing it now? Probably because of the petition effort, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the reason was so they could get the training requirements postponed. The why doesn't really matter.

I so wish that this totally predictable outcome did not come to pass. I would like to publicly thank all the people behind the petition for causing the governor to delete 3 weeks of sales as the only logical response to the petition.

The MA constitution (had anyone read it) was very clear that she could do this at anytime and effectively nullify the petition efforts. It also says we have until 30 days AFTER the law goes into effect to submit such a petition. Had you all waited to start this until a little later, you still would have gotten in the petition and your vote, but we would not have forced her to make the law effective before 10/23 to counter your move. Thinking she would not counter the petition...

So thank you. My 3 weeks of inventory also thanks you.

GOAL doing GOAL things.

How would FFL’s and firearms attorneys even know what the governor is planning? It doesn’t make sense that she would take time out of her schedule to expedite the law by a 3 weeks. Most people already did their panic buying on 8/1. Doing this to screw the 1% is not worth it.

If she thinks the petition has enough signatures to postpone, she's politically better off doing it now that after the postponement, when it looks worse. She's nothing if not aware of political optics.

We'll find out soon enough, in any case.

That's a weird take.

And yet not an incorrect one. GOAL has not really understood this bill from the beginning and has put out bad info from the start.

This whole petition thing was pretty foolish, and I said so in the beginning. But, once it was started, I went along with their ugly baby to try and make the most of it. We’d look extremely weak as a community if we didn’t come out strong with petition signatures after it was started.

But as crackpot mentioned, this was easily seen as an option for the state of GOAL had read the state constitution in detail.

I think that what was (and still is) needed more than a petition is a "million man march." It's obviously a pipe dream, but if we could get a ton of pro-2A people from all over the nation to come march on Boston (or even DC?), that would send a message that would not be so quick to be ignored.

We all know that some believe we deserve to be f***ed as punishment for living in MA, but I doubt that most people in the nation hold such a divisive and regressive mentality.

Think of how the giant rallies in DC over the past several years worked to get people there. We need that.
maybe for the 250th anniversary of lexington next year, he idly mused ....

I was more referring to ignoring all the signatures. The average person in this state doesn’t know the difference. Thanks to the media most average citizens think the “assault style firearms” are machine guns. I’d love to find a way to educate people but sadly most just don’t care. If people don’t have a direct interest in something they just don’t care. Look at all the fudds for years that have only cared about their hunting style rifles.

You’re right. But the signatures are from the vast minority of people in that state. The overwhelming will of the people in MA is in support of this legislation.

This is about stopping a petition that could stop the new law. Not about stopping people from panic buying.

And as I mentioned, his interpretation of Section 3 is incorrect. Be that as it may...

GOAL and the Coalition (who are not GOAL) were very aware of the Emergency Preamble and what it would mean. You can argue all sorts of intent and outcomes, but ignorance of the Constitution is not in the debate, the way I see it.

Does the preamble stop the petition from getting new signatures after tomorrow?

No.

If they stop shipping parts to Ma that will be a pita. I have stuff already in the mail on the way which is good.
I wonder if we will still be able to buy basic stuff. Pump guns, lever action etc in Nh or RI to hold people over once she signs this, since the long gun roster is not completed. Or will they also be too scared to sell to us.

There are many 2A allies in the halls of state government. They talk to people. Information circulates. Same as any other industry where insiders get early info and share it.

most were raised with good teachers telling them: 'guns do not belong in our democracy'. it is all they understand.

It’s too bad that they forgot to tell them that cars are responsible for drunk drivers and that their pencils are responsible for the wrong answers on their tests.

Does the preamble reset all of the dates in the bill? Would it set those requirements into effect immediately even with the new legislative changes made last week?

My understanding is that it will still go on the ballot but the law will already be in effect which the petition would have prevented without the emergency preamble.

NGL, the relationship between the petition, the preamble and the ballot is confusing. The ballot would have been after 10/23 anyway, so it shouldnt matter if the preamble pushes 10/23 up to 10/2. So if my understanding is correct, then nothing changes WRT to signing the petition after this preamble.

You were basically getting raped with a 12" dildo until someone said "stop, that is wrong", so now the person is pissed and about to rape you with a 16" dildo. But you are somehow blaming the person that stood up for you.

Great way of thinking. (Sarc)
You didn’t add the ig reel for context 😂

Maybe she figured there would be a flood of signatures over the last few days so she had someone leak this info in the hopes that it would squelch the turnout ?

I already know if several out-of-state FFLs who will still sell long guns that were perfectly legal before to Mass residents. This is really more of a 'not my problem' for those dealers. Yes, there will be some out of state dealers who won't sell (big chains such as Cabelas, etc) who will join the people who won't ship ammo to Mass, but I don't think you'll have an issue finding an FFL to sell you a shotgun/rifle. I'm also betting there will be some in-state FFL who will still sell long guns under the 'old' method since the new 'list' for them doesn't exist.

Signing BEFORE was the point, to stop the law going into effect.

Putting this on a ballot won't do sh*t.
