OK, I'll be bringing

HKP7M8
Ruger P95
Ruger Mark II Government Target Model
EAA Witness .45
Beretta 1934 (I've got 40-50 rounds for it)
If I buy a scope in my travels tommorow, I might bring my 10/22 to sight it in.

I'd like to try

.357/.38 revolvers
.44 Mag revolver
Single action revolver of some kind
Walther P99
M1 Carbine (weather permitting)
1911 (a couple different ones if possible)
I'd love to try the Mark 23

I will have plenty of 9MM, .45, and .22 ammo, and will grab a box or two of .357 and .38 tommorow morning.

Just ask me, I'll have my P99 .40SW with me.

I'll have my CZ75, MAC-11/9 and MAK-90, along with the usual stuff that I bring to every class.

I just wen't over to the range this afternoon, and things are in reasonably good shape. The pads are dry, and there's no major standing water around the ranges. Be careful driving past the pond, since between the rain and the damn beavers the water level is right up to the road.

There's an overhead image of the relevant portion of the club property on line here, curtesy of Google Earth. You'll be driving into the club at the lower left corner of the picture, past the 2-story club house on your left, to the parking area and ranges at the center left of this image.

See you tomorrow.

I can bring my .357's, my buddy's 44 (I have no ammo for it, though!), my 1911 and I have a black powder 44 revolver I can bring if you want. If you're not interested in BP, let me know so I don't have to spend my Saturday night cleaning it. [wink]

dw, if you would can you bring the 44 BP down? I have only shot BP in longarms, and I have been looking getting into the revolvers, but I have no one I know of with one to try it first.. thanks in advance!

See you folks tomorrow. Let's hope for good weather, a good time shooting and an enjoyable dinner afterwards.

Question:

I just found out that my not-a-firearm-under-federal-law 1893 mauser wont fit in the only rifle case I own. Can I legally transport it in MA with the bolt removed (and placed in a locked container), and do I need to try and find a cable lock to go through the receiver so the bolt cant be reinserted?? or does it not matter as it is not a firearm under federal law?

Think I just answered my own question:

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/140-121.htm

The provisions of sections 122 to 129D, inclusive, and sections 131, 131A, 131B and 131E shall not apply to:

(A) any firearm, rifle or shotgun manufactured in or prior to the year 1899;

(B) any replica of any firearm, rifle or shotgun described in clause (A) if such replica: (i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition; or (ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade; and

(C) manufacturers or wholesalers of firearms, rifles, shotguns or machine guns.

but carrying of Firearms is section 131C which still applies to antique firearms:

Chapter 140: Section 131C. Carrying of firearms in a vehicle

Section 131C. (a) No person carrying a loaded firearm under a Class A license issued under section 131 or 131F shall carry the same in a vehicle unless such firearm while carried therein is under the direct control of such person. Whoever violates the provisions of this subsection shall be punished by a fine of $500.

(b) No person carrying a firearm under a Class B license issued under section 131 or 131F shall possess the same in a vehicle unless such weapon is unloaded and contained within the locked trunk of such vehicle or in a locked case or other secure container. Whoever violates the provisions of this subsection shall be punished by a fine of $500.

(c) No person possessing a large capacity rifle or shotgun under a Class A or Class B license issued under section 131 or 131F shall possess the same in a vehicle unless such weapon is unloaded and contained within the locked trunk of such vehicle or in a locked case or other secure container. Whoever violates the provisions of this subsection shall be punished by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000.

(d) The provisions of this section shall not apply to (i) any officer, agent or employee of the commonwealth or any state or the United States; (ii) any member of the military or other service of any state or of the United States; (iii) any duly authorized law enforcement officer, agent or employee of any municipality of the commonwealth; provided, however, that any such person described in clauses (i) to (iii), inclusive, is authorized by a competent authority to carry or possess the weapon so carried or possessed and is acting within the scope of his duties.

(e) A conviction of a violation of this section shall be reported forthwith by the court or magistrate to the licensing authority who shall immediately revoke the card or license of the person so convicted. No new such card or license may be issued to any such person until one year after the date of revocation.

Just got back and I wanted to thank everyone there: by far the best bunch of people I have ever been around at a range. Even though I had never met any of you in person before I was welcomed into the group.

I had a lot of fun trying out my "new" 110 year old mauser, plus trying out a few other people's "toys", many of which I liked and can see denting my wallet in the future.

No elitist attitute, no BS, no "don't think about touching that", just good people with a passion for guns (and bad jokes).

Definitly a great time. We had way more than the 16 people show up that were in the pole. Good to put faces to names. Biggest hightlights were trying MarkM's Mauser, the .500 Magnum (2 rounds were just fine, thanks!), and above all -- I got to try an M1 carbine, and Ross' Garand! It doesn't get any better than that!

Here's the pictures I took today:

500 S&W Magnum: $850

Ammunition: $32.95/20

Watching Dwarven rolling around on the ground laughing his @$$ off after firing his first shot:

PRICELESS!!!

Today's shoot was (pardon the pun) a blast! Got to try Big Daddy's 500 S&W's (yes, he's got two!). Man, the giggle factor on those guns is extreme!

Fired my first shot out of the 8" barreled one at an empty Era detergent container... and watched the container cartwheel about 35' into the air. I couldn't help it... I started laughing at the sight of the bottle flying higher than the berm and couldn't stop! I managed to get the gun down and just kept laughing, eventually falling to my knees in hysterics. What can I say; I'm easily amused! But that was FUN!!!

Tried out some carbines: 9mm, .45, and Jack01730 let me try out his M1 Carbine - Thanks again, Jack! Man, I gotta get me one of them. Nice shooter! He told me it was his grandfather's in WWII; that's so cool that that gun stayed in the family!

Anyway, I met too many people to remember names, but I'll try - we had Uncle Fester, Big Daddy .45 ACP, LenS, Kmaurer, AdamMA, Crak, Fooped, Dreppucini007, TeleMark, Derek, and others who's names I've either forgotten or never got a chance to learn. As MarkM mentioned, everyone was great about sharing (although I didn't get my bp revolver out until too late - it started raining and, well... Sorry, guys. It'll come out first at the next shoot).

I'll post some pix later tonight.

Ross

I must say, I had a fantastic time today! It was great to see some of you that I had previously met again, and great to meet many of you for the first time.

I had a great time and a lot of laughs...I must say Ross shooting the .500s&w and the laundry detergent being sent into orbit had to be the highlight of the day!

I got to shoot a lot of great guns, and am convinced that I need to go out and buy an AR and a 1911.

I can't wait to do this again.

Thank you again Ken for letting us use the range. [wink]
