Long range rifle choices.

I used mine for a first round hit on a silhouette and subsequent 3 more hits at 1k in mild wind. But then started missing a bit as mid-range wind started shifting. Got it back on target once I saw the wind mid-range. It really wasn’t bad. 500-600 is really pretty easy with it. I’d say it has an “effective” range of 800.

I wouldn’t hunt with it at 1k (or with gun at the range) and I wouldn’t expect a first round hit, but not bad. More barrel is obviously better for that use though.
i just looked at my data point, for those ARs i made a bunch of loads at 42.7gr reloder16, on nosler 140rdf, and from 16" one it does 2614fps, from 20" - 2706fps.

i could throw in an anothe grain, 20" one worked well on 43.7gr, gave me 2771fps and a decent group, but a 16" group on that load was pretty bad, somehow.
guides said 43.7 as a severe overload, but it did not really show any signs. i gues it was why i rolled it back a grain as i ended up with 42.7 finally and loaded 300-400 of those.

with those ARs i know it is not guns, it is me that is the factor, usually, both are built with averagfe barrels - 20" is BA, 16" is Faxxon, but shoots fine

another puzzle for me was a claim that i saw more than once - a claim that people somehow get 175RDFs in .308 go at 2800fps, no clue how, as 44gr is the max load, and i know that anything beyound 44.4 starts really flattening primer bad. i do 44gr varget - that goes at 2600fps from my 20" gas gun. i guess from a 24" bolt gun it could go at 2700, but it is still far from 2800, and it is long, not like a usual hunting 18" rig. but, whatever.

Which ones? Alliant has loads in that range or maybe a hair below.

are you sure?
i think i tested it up to there, but saw it do something, i cannot even recall now, as i prefer to load hot, but i think there was a reason why i stopped at 42.7.

to be honest i do not remember at this point, but i think if it owuld be safe, i would load higher. so i guess it was not.

yeah, it says up to 43.8 on sierra. no clue.
i can retest it later again to see why. i still suspect it was too much, or it made buffer to hit the end of the tube, there was something.

43.5g of Varget and the 175 SMK got me 2773 fps from my 30" bbl Savage 12 FTR. Poor groups per my data , but no data about over pressuring in my notes. Did not do a lot of 175 testing as my barrel is a 1-12" and much more prefers 155's

30" is quite a lot of "s.
i think nosler rdf goes a tad slower that smk, but do not have direct comparisons. well, it is what it is, for me, as i am not going to drop in there more than 44gr anyway.
