All the democrats on Twitter are talking about now is “it’s the guns”. This will now be used to give this bill the push it needs. Watch.
Yeah, I was thinking the same last night... Is this (i.e., the Trump assassination attempt) the event the MA Legislature has been hoping for to finally justify pushing the "Mother Of All Anti-Constitutional Gun Control Bills" down our throats? 🤔

It's probably not exactly what they wanted (not enough dead bodies)... but is it close enough?

Remember, July 31st is coming at us pretty quickly now.

Well, if so, they'll be passing it Monday. Right?

Because this whole time, they've had it ready to go but been waiting for some reason. Got it.

Where is that? They are remarkably quiet on the gun control angle cuz Trump
WBZ this morning reporting from the statehouse was saying similar, this now gives the gun bill its highest chance of coming up for vote before the end of the session (along with housing, the budget, etc.)

Again, this kind of post? I don't get.

We're in Massachusetts. What kind of "push" does a gun control bill "need?" You really think the pols were sitting around with this thing done, fretting because we just can't pass this now; the public doesn't really want it. They'll vote us out if we pass it without a Damn Good Reason.

That's completely false. I'm not quite sure why anyone here believes it.

MSNBC saying all semiautomatics are bad. They dropped the machine gun language, now it’s semiautomatic !
During the Washington DC sniper shootings, the new big threat was "rifles with great power and accuracy at distance." In other words, bolt action hunting rifles. This is an important lesson about how reactive and ignorant people form opinions about things they don't understand. I always remember this story when the "new big threat" arises.

Why is the bill hung up then? There is likely issues that are causing the hang up. Grandfathering? Definition of assault weapon? Who knows. Now that this happened, you think they will still argue over some issues or say screw it and agree on the most stringent rules so they can just get the bill out.

because they're purposely waiting until the last minute to ram it down your throats, without debate

I think they don’t really care as much as we think they do, about the urgency for them to pass it. They know this will do nothing to reduce crime. They’re not urgent and don’t feel the need to get this done right away to solve some big problem that they know it won’t solve.

But I do think that they care about their own image. They may not have to worry about losing their seat to 2A supporter, but they do have to compete with other dems, to prove to all purple haired pronoun queens that make up their voter base, which one of them is more bat shit looney. And waiting for a mass shooting or something like this is a good way to get their “accomplishment” in the news and relevant. It does help their image more than just passing it at some random time when nothing is going on. And I think that’s all they really care about.

I believe it's because they are unable to come up with wording that will pass Bruen.

I doubt this incident will change anything.

I was at my new gun club in Texas yesterday for the "Work Day." Some of the other new members came from other states. We were talking about the gun laws where we came from and when I explained some of the existing laws and proposed new laws, a couple thought it was a comedy routine.

In particular the confusing storage and transport laws were baffling to them.

People here in FL get a big kick out of the pistol roster. [rofl]

Especially when I explain the states requirements for each pistol being submitted.

It's hung up because...

1. Despite being majority Democrat, the House and the Senate don't exactly get along. There have been serious rifts between the two houses since last year that have had cascading effects on their ability to agree on anything, much less gun control.

2.There's a massive difference between the House and Senate version of this gun bill, making the conference negotiations all the more difficult. Chances are high that if something comes out this month, it won't look anything like either of the bills that we've seen so far.

3. The state budget, economic development, IT bond, wage transparency, and federal fund matching bills all need to get done by the end of the month, so there's just a matter of prioritization that may work in our favor here. They also might take up Mayor Wu's plan to increase property taxes in the city, so it's possible that some of these "priorities" just may not get done.

Even when there is a Republican Governor, it's effectively a one party state as they General Court can overrule any veto.

Since both state reps and state senators are up for re election this year, there is some chance that the won't do anything until next year. Or at least try to as they did in 2013.

I highly doubt either the House or Senate care one whit about what the Republicans think or say in a debate. There's not enough of them to ultimately hang up any bill or threaten any of their positions.

The new tactic now is to focus on Bruen's reference to "self defense" and the simply say, well those extra killy black rifles are not bearable arms for self defense and so not covered by the 2A.

I suspect that MA will follow this tact when defending their infringement as seen here in Delaware.

This is incredibly subjective and will be slapped down.

I think someone must of been three sheets to the wind in order to post this one. :(
