New acquisitions for December 2008!

Relevant bit:

They recommend not to use it, but that doesn't mean you can't.

Thank you! +1 [cheers]

Would someone for Christ's sake read the very last paragraph? This issue has been hashed and rehashed - it's become the most over hyped piece of Internet lore. IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO USE M-16 BOLT CARRIERS IN AN AR-15!!!!!! Really, how are people missing this? Do you really think Colt, LMT, Noveske among others are shipping out their M4's with M-16 carriers in defiance of the law? Are they that willing to risk millions in business? The M-16 bolt carrier is a reliability feature built into the building of civilian semi-automatic M4 clones with the shorter M4 gas system. Adding them to a semi-automatic rifle will make them a machine gun in the same way adding fins to a car will make it a rocket ship...Let's get back to the gun porn shall we? Or, if someone needs to rehash this some more, start a new thread and I'll debate you on it (and you will get owned) until the cows come home....

Argentine Hi-Power... I love how this gun fits my hand [smile]

Fred has all the coolest toy's. I can only hope after years of hard work (like Fred as evidently already put in) I can grow up to be just like him.

My favorite part is the slide out racks(and the guns on them), that kicks butt. Great job Fred.[bow]

Picked this up today, this is a Esperanza & Unceta Model 1911 7.65 According to some research, due to a dispute over trademark rights, in 1915 Esperanza & Unceta ceased to use the "Victoria" trade name and adopted instead that of "Astra", which from then on came to be the most commonly used. This firearm I bought was manufactured from 1911 and 1914. (Not in bad shape for 94+ years old.) Safety catch lever, magazine lock and magazine indicator; hidden hammer and rifled bore with five striations. Blowback design based on John Browning's FN/Colt M.1903. French Chauchaut machine gunners were supplied this model during WWI as a back up pistol. I am sure there is more history to them but not much information on it. I bought the gun for more of a historical purpose. But I am sure I will fire it from time to time.

The FFL dealer told me this is the first he has ever seen.... cool!

These aren't really Dec acquisitions but I'm catching up.

Someone is going to be happy on Christmas morning!
It will be converted to a LTR. I'll let her decide if she wants a scope or Tech-Sights. I'll be steering her towards the Tech-Sights.

It was purchased at Bass Pro last night. My son and his girlfriend accompanied me. They had never been there before. My son was in awe.
It was great to see and talk to C-pher. Jamie was there too but I didn't get to talk to him.
Hey Chris, Five Guys Burgers was great! Thanks for the tip.

I never get sick of looking at Lugers.

Same here.

I keep hoping some old timer that knows I shoot and collect will come up to me and give me his bring back trophy Luger one of these days. I hear about it happening to people here and there and so far I've been lucky enough to get a K98 but no Luger.

Kickass photos Paul!

Did you ever get that Kahr frame issue thing looked at?

Thanks Hanwei (and thanks to dreppucci007, Packingungal and Ranger4-7). A big strobe makes it pretty easy.

I didn't have it looked at but I did talk to someone there. He said that it's basically normal though mine might be on the far end of spec. It's been very reliable so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Just picked up today... One of the other members indicated a good buy for under $100. Heard about these with the airplane sights, so now I own one - another C&R acquisition [smile]

I had a take back trophy Luger made in 1942 that I had FS here up in the classifieds. I think I sold it to Flotter.

Bit of history behind said Luger. Was taken in Italy by my friends grand-pa from the Nazi officer who was trying to kill him. Was put in storage most of the time, but came out every so often. The REAL collectible part of the pistol was the holster. All leather holster made for WWI. Was in rough shape and had some blood stains on it. I had a choice of either the Luger or the Colt 1911.

I love lugers, but I loves the 1911 a hell of a lot more.

My Dad brought back a Luger from Italy in WWII. Unfortunately my Mom didn't want it in the house so he "stored" it at his brother's. Needless to say when my Dad decided it was time to bring it home (in the late 50's)...it had been "disposed" of as my Aunt wasn't as keen on having it in the house as my Uncle was. My Dad (nor I) ever forgave him.

Juergen you have some really great stuff!

Nice, and with the Mum intact. Now you need some ammo.

What is that thing? And what's the deal with those "airplane sights"? haha

The sixteen petal mum is the imperial symbol of the Japanese Emperor. One of the final standing orders of the Imperial Army was to file off the Emperor's family chrysanthemum insignia, or mon, from each of the rifles, thereby preventing dishonor from having the symbol fall into surrender.

Great to see this rifle still has the AA calipers too.

Interesting! I was also wondering what kind of rifle it is, and what purpose those sights serve.

Here is my pre-ban Ruger Mini-14. Picked her up yesterday from Dennis over at First Defense Firearms. I've wanted one for a while and just happened to stop by the shop and there she was.

Looks just like mine minus the flash hider. Is the mag an original Ruger mag?
