I'd like everyone to take a moment of silence in remembrance and appreciation of John Moses Browning, 1855-1926. Born more than 150 years ago. The greatest gun designer in history.

All stand and join in please:
In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was THE pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck with my disciple John's design for it is good and it workith. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain."

The Gospel According to John.

My SA Mil-Spec got some new grips and a holster

Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911, parkerized in .45ACP. I bought the crossed cannon grips from Springfield, and the holster is a Lobo Gunleather IWB. Mag holder is also from SA (took advantage of their 30% off sale). To round it out, a trio of CMC Match Grade mags.

The gun does sit deeper in the holster, I apparently didn't push it all the way in for the photo op (still a bit tight).

Love this gun...I haven't tried JHPs or SWCs yet, but beyond a few hiccups with the stock mag, it has eaten every FMJ I've thrown at it without complaint, including Wolf and Blazer.

I forsee other 1911s in my future...[smile]

those of you who carry a 1911. do you carry locked and cocked on safe. or chambered with the hammer down

Cocked and locked. Carrying a 1911 in condition 2, hammer down on a loaded chamber, is completely pointless, IMHO. If the cocked hammer scares you (but a "cocked and unlocked" Glock doesn't), there are plenty of excellent alternative designs to choose from.

why would you carry with the hammer down?

ive herd of people doing it before, some ppl are scared of it

im not scared to carry a gun how it was designed to be carried. thought id ask quick question in a place where i know its get attention.

i drop the mag, pull the slide to the rear, eject the round, ensure it is clear, ride the slide to the forward then ride the hammer forward. I have a clearing barrel outside my front door.

Ok here is my contribution.
The Colt is marked Property of US Army with a S# of 468XX from what I have been able to find out that should have been made in 1912. Let me know if that is not right. It came to me with the rear site dovetailed in. I never would have done that to that gun myself. A friend got me the magazine with the lanyard loop that he thought was what came with it.
It came with a Colt 22 conversion that is shown.
Next is a Kimber Team Match that is my everyday shooter. The old Colt only comes out on special occasions.

Sorry if I didn't follow, but assuming you then reinsert the mag, that sounds like Condition 3; loaded, not locked, no round in the chamber, hammer down. Isreali Carry. I'm not a fan, but this seems reasonably common. Locked in condition 2 sound very odd. Are you sure your 1911 has a firing pin block? Can you rack your slide while still locked or something odd like that?
Sorry for the digression.

My new 1911's a SW1911 Stainless. No camera.
