So many interesting guns for sale, so little cash!!!

I should be more specific when I talk about flipping I'm talking about people who only flip guns for profit and don't really give a shit about them at all otherwise. It's not quite the same as buying something finding out that you don't like it and then getting rid of it. šŸ¤£

I'm talking about the Legion of EMTs and dog catchers that are out there that do stuff like flipping their f***ing blue label glocks every year and that kind of thing. šŸ¤£

The majority of guns owned by that archetype are never even taken out of the box.

I know what you meant, it's just funny that I rarely sell guns, but have sold like 3 HKs, although one, the HK45c, I traded to my brother for a bunch of Glock/Stanag prebans.

I purchased the last couple Glock Gen 5ā€™s I wanted today. I need to build some uppers, but otherwise I think Iā€™m done.

This whole thing is gay to me.

You can make more money in the stock market
with the click of a mouse in a short amount of time

Buying and selling guns for profit without an ffl license is asking for trouble. Police doing it with glocks is extra stupid when they get jammed up and lose theirjob because of it. Or worse get wrung up by the ATF for dealing without a license

Obviously I have guns I have made money on. In most cases those are guns I had for 15 years and because they got discontinued or became hard to get or thru just plain inflation they were sold more than I bought them for. And yes a few items because I lived in MA and bought low sold panic.

But if I had taken that same initial money for that gun, and put it in SP 500 fund for 15 years. I can almost guarantee id have triple the profit vs that gun resale.

And this doesnā€™t include guns ive lost money on. Which have been many. At least in the stock market I can sell my losers and balance off the winners for tax purposes.

Most flippers aren't working in that time scale, but sure, i get that. I think it's just generic flipper culture (tv shows have basically told randos that anyone can play Arbitrage games, wether its cars or antiques or whatever) crossed with maybe a tinge of mental illness in some cases. (Eg this is an adult fidget spinner for them) I've seen the same thing with cars too. I know this guy who is driving a different truck like every six to eight months because he horse trades whatever his previous vehicle is for a different one. Like wtf? šŸ¤£

Yup, people collecting guns for a "retirement" fund are delusional (unless they are super-expensive/super-rare guns). I have done the same as you, bought guns that I've wanted with the intent of utilizing for hunting, etc. and, when the prices have shot up on some, sold them but only to buy other guns. A bunch of money sitting in guns in safes is not doing enough work for you in terms of appreciation.

You guys are thinking like flippers, short term. I wouldn't make guns my retirement plan but you can certainly make money over the long term. Consider a CMP (aka DCM) Garand bought for $125 back around 1992, they were the picture of perfection for collectors with all the right markings. That was nothing special back then, it was just what they had. Today that gun could get $1800. That's a 1440% increase.

So it really comes down to what you buy, where you buy it, and how much you spend. Buying guns at the LGS or Gunbroker, in other words retail, isn't likely to position you well for increased value down the line. On the other had, real auctions will have some gems. And sometimes you'll really hit.

Lol, you are agreeing with exactly what we said, that it is not a good retirement plan. And the problem is, like any collectible, the market fluctuates over time, there is no guarantee that you're getting a 1440% increase every time.

Did you have the foresight to buy a bunch of Garands when they were $125 in 1992?

I do ok on my auction buys, some very good, others, well I didn't lose any money.

I wish I had bought more, just the one Garand

Stock market is paper, virtual. Guns are real assests. If/when the stocks market tanks, my investment guns and boolits will deliver diviends in way of food and safety. ;) It will also be fun plinking the desparate wackos that dare cross the compound gate.

If you talk milsurps.....I might be able to be swayed a bit.....cases of mosins probably went for 100 dollars in 1990's, and Garands were worth shit when my dad was parusing gun shops in the late 70's or earlier.

The storage is the issue.....your taking up room and cost storing such items. Risk is involved with that for theft or damage.

Storage, yup. When I had a couple hundred guns there was one day I couldn't find room for one more in a safe and I said WTF am I doing. I am down to 50 and one safe and that's it, I would like to get down to under 30 someday (but the used market is not the greatest right now for what I would sell). I've taken that money, bought a 72 Jimmy, 76 Scout, land, etc. and am happier, buying guns got to be too much of an "addiction" and, in the end, each one that I bought provided less of a "high". Sometimes have a lot of "stuff" is too much, šŸ˜†.

This whole paragraph makes no sense to me!!!! Sell? Getting under 50 guns??? Complete claptrap!!! [wink] [laugh]

Well it is an addiction, I'm at the stage where I can admit my addiction.
But ya, what is this "sell" crap. [mg] [mg] [mg] [mg] [mg]

I'm 56, almost 57, I'm looking to simplify my life and cut back on my "addictions" as I look to retire at 60. Having a zillion guns collecting dust, even if they are appreciating a bit, just does not make sense to me at this point in my life, but everyone is different. I just know I want to have complete freedom what I do, where I go, etc. every day when I hit 60 and a bunch of money tied up in a large gun collection, among other things, really does not fit into that plan.

I hear ya. I just turned 57 as well and I'm happy with my largish collection of firearms and ammo at this point. I'll even go so far and admit that I'm more of a "fine" firearm collector then a shooter. I basically lust after things that are rare and barely obtainable. To me the hunt for something that fits those categories is the best part. Once acquired it goes to the range to try it out, then into the safe and I go from there. Yeah, someday I'll start to pair down but that's not today! [wink]

same age but I'm still in the "whoever dies with the most toys wins" stage. And I'm going to die at work... if I'm lucky

Yeah, I got too much I want to do with the final chapter of my life, Ihope i die in the woods, not at work. But I still have plenty of "stuff" and toys, e.g., classic vehicles, tractors, sawmill, side by side, snowmobiles, bunch of land, etc., so it's not like I'm being completely austere, šŸ˜†.

As someone who just moved 30 guns and has another 15 still up there with Dad. I approve this message.

That said.....I just bought an AR pistol and a 9mm 20 round target gun with RMR and threaded, so I can suppress it.

Im retarded, but its a free state boner situation.

If my company ever lets me go.....I'll fire up the gunbroker for sale page and start to weed some of this shit out...but right now..Im too busy for that noise.

We bought our things bro.....now we are looking to buy time. Which is unpossible.

I am buying land though. Wife just said her next gig may be Tennessee....and land is cheap where she would be working.

Im looking at buying some acreage and build that pole barn for now. Even if it doesn't happen....Ill go hunting there. I can't hunt deer down here really, so I need a place. Its cheap enough so it won't take any $$ from any Carolina plans.

Yup, same, I have too much going on right now to list anything on GB, it does take some time from pictures/listing, answering questions, and then packing/shipping.

That is why I only buy and build fun guns.

Working on a 458 Win Mag Handgun and a Raptor AR (still researching this).

Ain't got time for boring sh*t that can't dislocate a shoulder or break a wrist.

I love your thinking.

In for shoulder/wrist pain!!!

Bring it!!!

Well, if you have anything interesting to sell just let me know!!! Same to you @Mark from ? ;)
Ugh....still buying. You hit the nail on the head...so many deals lately. Some for me are free state boners I've been putting off til I got down here.....but others...WTF...just good deals.

In the last two weeks.....

AK Pistol...maybe not a deal but a free state boner situation, that sitting in the back of my Toyota as a truck gun.
Tisas Tactical 9mm Range gun with RMR and threaded barrel, 18 and 20 round mags - On sale $325. Picking up tomorrow.
Brand new Bettinsoli O/U X trail for super sale for $940, usually $1700....couldnt say no to that deal for a quality italian backup Sporting Clays gun.
PC trade Glock 21 Gen 4 - $299.00 and I had a gift card with 50 dollars more off..... couldn't say no....sold my one up north for $650 before i left. So I guess I could buy 2 and still be on top of that.

Now Tokarev TBP 12 Ive been wanting as a bedside shotty..... at Classic Firearms $229 with a 40 dollar rebate -----ugh...struggling not to buy this one.

Ever since this abortion of a law passed Iā€™ve seen a slew of interesting and desirable guns come up for sale. My eyes have lit up many times seeing whatā€™s for sale. Iā€™ve done my best to help these folks out but now Iā€™m broke.

Dammit!!!

So many guns so little cash.

Just saw your post about the ammo purchase! Good job! Guns are no good without the freedom seeds. šŸ˜‰
