Vehicle Undercoating

So I found a place in Ayer, MA that does it. I don’t recall the name of the product they use, but they said it’s a one time application for the life of the vehicle but should be brought in every couple years just to get inspected and touched up if required due to rocks and such.

It’s not a wax or oil but a hard coat product. I was quoted about $700 since my car is brand new and hasn’t seen a winter yet.

Sound like a good deal to you guys? I don’t like the idea of the oil based products for some reason and would prefer the one and done deal.

Is this the old Ziebart rustproofing? Seems those hard coat products have fallen out of favor, the oil and wax undercoatings work much better.

The oil and wax coatings need to be touched up once a year, I see that as the only advantage to a permanent hard coating.

It’s only as good as the prep like anything else. And it’s only really good if they get down into crevices cracks with a real rot and destroys your car. The 700 bucks I’d be shocked if they’re doing more pulling off the wheels if everything is and if you have a spare tire dropping the spare. Which most places don’t do a basically spray what you see will get under the car look up that’s what they gonna spray. Do you feel good about the money you spent you’ll be OK

It is good to get it done before the car sees salt.

They maaaay do it, but removing the spare tire before bringing it in is a great idea.

Just checked the website and this is the stuff they use. Any have experience with it?

Discussed here. I paid about the same at forte’s in Framingham last year for waxoyl, was told after 6-7 years it may need to be touched up.

I’m a Woolwax convert as a former NH guy.

Damn this stuff is still active moving around
from 2 years ago. They took a fair amount of my truck and the wife’s SUV apart and porked it hard with spray. Shop fully washed the undercarriage on a lift then let it dry overnight before taking it apart to spray.
Shop said I’d never do it again. We’ll see as I not buying another new truck.
Woolwax will attract dust and dirt but it doesn’t wash off. Touch anything under the truck today and it leaves a grease mark. It’s not for show.
Same with the Surface Shield. I do my oil change I shirt comes out with black skid marks from hitting the frame while reaching up for the oil filter.

Don't really need it anymore down here but the stuff is still on their good after 2 years.

Any light rust that it had on the frame arms or whatever turned black when I sprayed it with SS. The whole frame is just black coated now.

So went in for my annual NHOU at Rhino Linings of Cape Cod. I cancelled the first appointment because of rain; interestingly enough they told me it can be applied when wet because “the oil displaces the water”. Keep in mind this is completely contrary to what they’ve told me in the past and I personally chaulked up to them not wanting to lose business due to rainy day cancellations.

Anyway, here’s a couple of pics of the clear application. I definitely feel like it’s worth doing and will extend the life of a new vehicle, especially a body on frame like pos jeeps. I would not apply it to a wet surface, no matter how much they assure you that you can.

I used Woolwax this year.

However, for some other places, harder to reach that won't get power washed, I might use a second product less sticky.

Does anyone know if there can be issues caused by another product coming into contact with Woolwax?

For example, using Fluid Film on a truck that already has Woolwax applied to it.

I messaged the manufacturer, didn't get an answer.

Gang,

We are buying a new car for my wife. Any of you have experience with the wax/oil treatment for new cars at NHOU? Cost and effectiveness?

Thanks!
did my 2019 tacoma with the wax in black as new, so far so go with recoat every other year. I would do the clear if I were to do it again but overall I'm pleased, especially since toyota rust issues.

Might interfere with waxy type coatings (e.g. cosmoline). Lanolin will soften the wax. GM, for instance, dips the frames of some of their vehicles in a wax-like substance (GM frame wax). I think it's mostly on truck frames.

Which product is clear?

Unless you like squeaking that never existed before, avoid NH oil undercoat.
My car has waxoil and it is the bomb.

What was the cost?
I had windows tinted also. I forget what I paid. It was in Sutton. SuperShine I think is the name of the place. The do ceramic coating and other shit too.

I saw them online and they seem like they are thorough. I want to say they cost around $800 with life time touch ups.
How was the service and quality of it?
They use 2 kinds of wax oil. One for the interior areas like doors and fenders and one for the underside. They powerwash abd desalt before applying.
Seriously considering them in the spring.

This is the frame and underside of an unrestored (one repaint) 79 Scout that I just bought, never seen salt, salt sucks.

If you want to keep it that way GARAGE
THE REAR SILL behind the bumper and cross member under the front seat are rust collectors that you don't see until the floor drops when you get out one day and the door does not close
A 4X4 fits perfect by the way

Yup, it's in a heated garage. This one only has 23K on it, has never seen mud or salt and been garaged pretty much it's whole life. Not only will it not be driven in the winter, it will never even see rain unless some freak shower while we are out (it will likely not have the top on it at all).

I had mine done in August and my car only saw rain a few times since I bought it. Great service and they have loaner rides. They had my car for two days due to the tint getting done and having to sit in the sun for the day. The windows were filthy in the pic as I had just gotten home.
