What’s wrong with DA/SA handguns?

@M1911 I didn't really have any issue with the mag release on the HK 45c. Then again, I didn't run it all that much in the time I had it. I'm sure if I was switching between that and more traditional releases more often it probably would have annoyed me. Being able to release it with either hand was kind of nice. I could hit it with my trigger finger while grabbing a mag with my left hand.

Some people disrespect Da/Sa because it requires practice to be good at the transition from Da to Sa, also the double action first shot takes a little work to be good at it (or spring tweaks 😀) they also can be a little more complicated to work on vs striker fired. There are some pluses to carrying a Da/Sa

Part of the problem is most DA SA handguns have differing trigger issues. Poor DA, Poor SA, poor reset or all three. Also SA trigger creep etc. All off these can result in an experience that's worse than dealing with a marginally tuned up glock or m&p trigger. Not every DA/SA gun is like this but a lot are.

I own da/sa handguns and like them but for the average buyer they complicate things.

The paddle mag release is further from the backstrap than a pushbutton would be and it is significantly slower to use. But the main issue is that it is different, and if you are going to be carrying different guns, I think that difference is not a good thing.

In my opinion, putting an operating device that close to the trigger and operating it with your trigger finger is an accident waiting to happen. It isn't as bad as the Garand safety inside the trigger guard, but it is still not something that I would do. YMMV.

I never carried the HK45c, so it never really bothered me. I do agree that your carry gun should be the easiest for you to manipulate all it's controls. Plus be sure that you'll not hit one you don't intend to. Maybe my hands are sized in line with the enginerds at HK when they designed the 45C for those things. I probably wouldn't have carried the 45C anyway due to the magazine limits it had. I'd want more than 10 rounds available to me.
I love to shoot my 226, but she’s a thick and heavy gal.
We won't judge you for being into that. ;)

Of course, I've carried a Para P14-45 with 14 round magazines before. So the weight of the 226 wouldn't be an issue. Just don't have girly arms (and hands) and you'll be fine. [rofl2]

I carry striker fired pistols regularly. But I also duty carried a P229 .40 for years, and a P226 Fotay as well. Any classic line Sig in DA/SA with a short reset trigger is fantastic. The ability to draw and fire the first round double action with no safety to disengage works quite well. Then that SA trigger is fast and consistent. Yes, they have more moving parts and are more complicated to work on. That being said (and being an armorer across classic lines and striker Sigs), rarely does a legacy pistol need to come apart besides field strip. Now, my old warhorse Ruger P90 DC (decocker model) in .45....okay so she's RugerRough. DA/SA with a 1990's DA trigger pull, a "meh" single action trigger, a poor trigger reset....but she has many, many thousands of rounds through her with never a broken part. Can hammer nails with it then shoot with it.

Shopping for optics but walked out of the lgs with a P229 Legion. (The most I’ve ever paid for a handgun but they give you a magical coin, range bag AND official inclusion into the Legion. What are some of the reasons DA/SA are sort of disrespected. I’ve always shot my best with 1911 style handguns and it’s always felt like the bullet was downrange before I felt the recoil. Anybody take a shot?
Why didn't you close the parenthesis?

DA/SA is my preferred OS. I am due a new pistol and am heading to the lgs next week to see what is available. My 4 preferences are HK P30LS, Walther P99AS, FNX9, or a Ruger P85MKii.
I owned the P85 years ago and regret parting with it.
I want an ambi mag release and i like the paddle but also liked the Ruger style. I currently own a Walther P22 that I like. I know all of NES shits on it but I do not encounter the same problems others do for some reason.

Have you tried a sig macro lol?

I'm just saying you got options
I don't trust any striker fired Sig's.
I have others I can carry.
My smaller Beretta APX centurion is my other go to. But it's fire control group is currently in it full size condition.
Full size has always been my preference though. Just feels right.
The industry reinvents itself with new pistols to move new product. There hasn't been a true innovation in the pistol world in 40 years.
Laugo arms Alien begs to differ
Or that funky rocket cartridge pistol

+1 for the P85. That thing was the balls. Wish they would resurrect it.

You need 2 of them

a lot of chest hair

Wonderful locks

An open billowing shirt

And salma hayek on your arm if you own them
Sadly: I’m not tall, nor dark, nor handsome enough to haul in an epic bounty of that magnitude.

However, we already have sexbots. I would model mine after her and live out this fantasy if the robotics engineers didn’t end up fighting me for her after fabrication.

I still want an FNX9.
But then I'll want the 40 S&W and FNX45.
I like to have sets of things for some reason if they are available.

There is such a thing as law of diminishing returns. Shit like TV sets and the " p365 Lego Barbie system" sell guns which is great.

Actually on paper technically you are kinda wrong. The problem is that like 95% of the "Innovations" in the gun industry are answers to questions that nobody ever asked but the products are clearly a form of innovation. Like you take a gun like the Boberg xr9 that's definitely an Innovative product even if it doesn't really answer a demand somewhere.

Actually you'll rarely hear me do this but Smith has the M&P EZ series and even though those guns are nothing that most of us here really give a shit about it's actually a major innovation that answers a question that's been quietly asked for probably a decade or more. Getting women and elderly into handguns because they can't easily shoot/operate the existing ones isnt a terrible thing. This helps to kill off the fagotty default of trying to push revolvers on these people and those people grudgingly having to accept a suboptimal solution for their desires. ( this isn't a knock on revolvers it's just a statement of reality... that revolvers are not great handguns for new shooters especially not short ones designed for carry purposes. )

Have done so

Bought CZs instead …

I have both. It really all depends on QC roulette and what you want out of the handgun and whether or not it fits you correctly or not. Take a cajunized CZ or even a custom shop model and it's tough to beat. Also all of the Sigs are school buses. My P226 Legion SAO is pretty nice, but, it's still a school bus.

Well consolation prize is a sawed off pistol grip shotgun

I EDC a 2022 or 226. Both are tack drivers, pretty much as good as an AR15 in my hands out to 25 yards. Triggers are as good as anything short of a tuned 1911. That first DA shot is slower and more deliberate, but IMO it's ok to take that extra half a beat to concentrate through a long da pull.

Sig 2022, 5 rounds of federal syntech 147gr at 25 yards, very slow fire, first shot was DA, and yes, that first shot was the low and left one.

I tend to shoot these guns just a tad low for some reason.
Same guns here. 2022 with thumb safety, and 226 mk25. If ever SHTF, it’s one of, or both of them. Absolutely great guns. Those two and the 229 might just be the only classic series SIG has left in their lineup.
