What did you do in the reloading room recently?

That’s respectable. I’ve never chrono’d mine but I’m sure they would kill a squirrel.

I never shoot my 629 so I think it’s on the chopping block. Possibly along with the 1894 in 44 special.
A crono is nice to have. Made some loads that surprise me with the results. I'm at the club now and just put a 357 mag load I made with 125 grain jsp and 9 graims unique......out of my 5 inch blackhawk I'm getting 1475fps. That's an outstanding velocity from only 9 grains of powder. I love that load too.......can smack a 8 inch plate at 100 yards all day long 6 for 6 off hand. Never put it over a chrono before been making it for years because the blackhawk likes it so much accuracy wise. 1475 was way faster than I was expecting......was thinking it was in the 1100fps range. Unique is a very good powder to keep on hand can do so much with it. Just wish it metered a little better.

Yeah that’s one of my favorite if not my favorite powder.

It metered beautiful in my old Lyman 55s. Try one of those if you ever find one

Been a reloading room kind of day. Went to ktp yestersay morning and found a bag of 158 grain jsp 250 count for 25 bucks on the trade in shelf. Also a partial box of 240 grain cast swc for 44 mag for $40.....gave em a quick count when I got home and there were about 350 in the box. Not too shabby. Plenty of spp in stock at 8.99 a pack but zero lpp on the shelf. Alliant brand powders are still over 60 bucks a can.....hidgedon brand is still in the 30 dollar range per can.

Loaded a bunch of 44 mag this weekend and ran myself dry on large pistol primers. I have a shit ton of small primers and been loading 45acp with my spp brass but being completely dry on lpp I finally broke down and went online to that large online vendor we all talk about. They had fed lpp for $95......f*** it I need em so placed the order. Uploaded my ltc and checked out......fml I forgot about the 30 dollar hazmat fee 😐. Like I said f*** it.....I need em for 44 mag is what it is I guess.

Tumbled brass all weekend too. I had a shit ton built up in large coffee cans under the bench. Ran 6 batches through the tumbler.....back in the cans, labeled and up on the clean brass shelf.

I'm well stocked on powder and projos and spp.......these prices suck but still way better than factory.

357 factory is still up around 37 a box. I'm loading 357 for about 18.50 a box even at the 9 dollar per 100 price on primers. So.......I still rely on the rcbs turret for my range fodder.

Ran the numbers thru my reloading cost calculator for 44 mag using that partial box of 240 grain cast I picked up. Loaded 100 this morning with 9 grains titegroup

That's a hell of a bargain imo at $12.27 a box.

Now imagine using your own cast bullets!

I’m still running off of $30 primers and $20 powder. Not for long though.

Jesus. $60 for Alliant powders? I know Alliant had a recent price increase but damn. I hope my $160 8 pound jug of 2400 lasts awhile
They had 2400?

Made 100 rounds of "range fodder" 357 mag. The projo is a plated rnfp I bought ages ago. 158 grain and labeled as a round nose flat point. The plating seems very thick. The company website says use jacketed data so that's what I did. Mid level magnum load using unique powder (7.6 grains). Only "issue" I have with these is it has a cannilure.....but to get to 1.59 oal they have to be seated so the cannilure is inside the case. Not worried about it but.....labeled as 357 mag/ 38 you'd think the company would put the cannilure in the right position. Anyway.....they were super cheep.......60 bucks for a box of 750 I couldn't pass it up. I weighed 10 and they ranged from 159.6 to 157.1 so not too consistent. Definitely not a projo I would use for max charge 357 mag. My expectations on accuracy are low.....but you never know. Will test in the henry 357 tomorrow.

Can't go wrong for $10.24 per 50 round box component cost.

Loaded some 45acp with a 230 grain lead round nose that someone gave me. The powder charge was 4.6 grains of Titegroup that was also given to me. All I paid for was the primers. Pretty cheap 45 ammo. I also did a little shooting with a Ruger Old Army cap & ball revolver. It shot much better with a ball than it did with a bullet.

I've been loading 45acp with titegroup for awhile now. I use 200 grain swc with 4.5 grains and it's a super soft shooting load perfect for plates shooting. I've been thinking about reducing the charge little by little for testing to see if I can get a load that is just enough to reliably cycle .y 1911 but has enough energy yo knock over plates at 25 feet.

Forgot to post about the performance on the 357 range fodder loads. The "cheep" 158 grain plated and 7.6 unique was accurate enough through the henry to make the load worth making again that's for sure. Through the blackhawk accuracy was mediocre but will do fine for smacking plates at 25 feet.

On hold now for casting and coating while refurbing my shed.
Dialing in the new press and trying a couple of mods to it.View attachment 775575View attachment 775574
Ooo I like that. One of my Dillon is mounted on a strong mount and loading light charges into a 38 special is hard to keep an eye on. I should mod the press with a camera. Or grow taller.

No love for cast in the rifle?

I've used cast projos in the Henry. They worked well.....158 grain rnfp. Purchased at ktp.....I don't cast my own......yet.

I'm using these plated projos mainly to use them up for cheap range ammo......I bought the box of 750 a looking time ago.

Nice.

Well it’s about time you do something about that.

This was a couple hours of fun to make and cost me about $2 in scrap lead and $3 in lube
