AR-15 thread... I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Technically not really an AR15, but it's something to keep me happy until I have built my own (which also involves saving money).

Troy BattleRail 12" MRF-CX

How hard was that rail to install? If I read the website right it mounts to the standard barrel nut. Were there any modifications you had to make for it?

ETA: my internet connection while at sea is less then desirable, so youtube is like watching paint dry.

ETA: meh, never mind, I got to see the video after all.

Do you like that Troy rail? I am REALLY thinking about picking one up for my M4gery.

It wasn't bad to install at all, you do have to remove the delta ring and assembly, which I just cut off with my dremel, that was easy as pie...not sure if you have to but i chose to remove the handguard end cap as well and that was a little trickier to cut off as the video shows...its so snugged against the lip and FSB and i didn't want to cut into my barrel or gas block either but with a little sweat and time it came off.... I'm sure its easier if you just remove the FSB but I didn't want to deal with that and since my comp is pin/welded I would still have to cut the cap off either way.....

while have not shot with it yet, I really like the feel of the rail, I have a longer grip stance so I wanted longer rails then carbine lengths and i didn't want to/couldnt just add low pro gas blocks without a mess of work since my comp is welded, so after finding the troy i was really excited cause its lighter than others I looked at, little less $$$ and able to install without too much modifications....locks to barrel nut real solid...hope to shoot it soon and will see how it holds up but feels strong as hell...plus troy is a good local company and if gives military discounts so only spent little over 200$

Took the rifle shooting today, I liked the rail a lot, felt nice shooting, will just have to tweak my tango down shorty grip a bit but overall very happy with it, looked nice, felt nice, decent weight...wish i could have pushed it harder at the range but it was a little restricted but hey shooting is better than not shooting i just wish the rail would clean my rifle for me now

Firebird Billet upper and lower
Timney trigger
WOA SPR Barrel with an awesome custom brake on it
Lightened BCG
Lightened Buffer
Firebird adjustable micro gas block
VTAC/JP forearm
Burris 1-4x XTR
JP scope mount

With the lightened BCG,buffer, adjustable gas block and the amazing brake, there is literally no recoil. the gun is like a .22. very smooth, doesn't move at all.
A Big Thank you to the guy that did the custom work for me

ARMYSGTPM, had you considered just a standard rail, without the front sight there? I ask, because I am considering doing a similar mod to my AR. I have the standard M4 picatinny rail, but want it JUST beyond my front sight, as this is where I want to put my hand naturally. I have read of others simply removing their front sight post by cutting it off, and putting the rail system over it. Just curious if thats something you considered, or if you prefer to have the sight there, as you do. IF I decide to do it, it likely wont be till next summer-and, I may just pick up a complete BCM monolith upper instead :)

I did tons of considering....but my main reason for the rails with the cut out were this...living in MA my comp was already pin and welded and I did not want to have to have it cut off to remove the FSB replace with micro gas block and then buy a new comp/brake and weld it back on. This was more work/money than I wanted to spend...I considered also just buying new barrel micro gas block and new comp but still more money than I wanted...plus once i replace the FSB w. a micro gas block I then would need to buy flip up front sight and again spend more money....while this rail was hard to find...i found that most free float tubes require removing the FSB which i just wasn't willing to do with my pin/welded comp, I like have the Front site there, I don't notice it when using my optics and I personally like the looks of it....if my budget was bigger and i was doing it i would just build a whole new rifle with a micro gas block and extend the rails over that, but with what i already owned and budget constraints i am very happy with the rails i bought.

Just a note too, that removing the FSB does not require cutting...it is pined to the barrel and can be removed fairly simply...but you must be able to remove your muzzle devices to slide the FSB off once the pins are removed.

Thanks. I have a few options to look into. Prior to me seeing your build, I didnt know that they HAD a slotted free float one.

ArmySGTPM pretty much hit it right on. If you are going to swap your rail system, you are going to need one to be able to move the gas block to change the nut unless you go with certain ones. The Midwest industries clamps around the barrel nut so you would not have to do that. There is also a new player out ther called Apex...working on getting one for review now.

Figure it out before you pin that FSC though Bill, don't make me slap you for burning away my freebie!
