First school shooting of the fall

I wish we could actually work to address this, but I doubt it will happen.

1. Guns are not the issue (duh). If it's not guns, it will be knives... If not knives, something else.
2. The causes are mental and/or family situations. And there are likely patterns to it...
3. We shouldn't just try to stop shootings with stuff like metal detectors, resource officers etc... we should better equip schools to identify and treat the kids themselves. Do you know how many schools don't even have a full-time counselor? Or there's one counselor for 2,000 kids? Or they can't operate after school programs because of budget? Schools operate on too few resources - we need to stop complaining about our taxes going up $100 a year and actually give more resources to schools.

What Georgia conservative is going to look at this incident and think they need to give up their guns?

These shootings don’t change anyone’s opinions on either side.
Georgia conservative gun owner votes are not going to swing Georgia, it will be the undecided middle or the roaders.

While these shootings don't change anyone's opinions who vote just red or blue, they do change opinions of people that are on the fence.

Is anyone really on the fence? I mean, it's not a fence between Kamala and Trump, it's an ocean. I can't imagine anyone is undecided between those two.

Many remain torn between their belief Trump would be less damaging to their personal economic welfare and being repelled by Trump otherwise.

With Harris/Walz backing a party-line largely viewed as ineffective (ban AR-16s, etc.) by non-Liberals, Trump can influence those fence-sitters by proposing more SRO and school security funding. Many accept that, while mass killers are had to prevent, that they can be deterred and stopped sooner.

The kill ratio of 4 killed/9 injured (30%) is surprisingly low for an semi-auto rifle attack in a constrained space - about twice the "free range" Chicago kill ratio (17%) - but it seems the shooter wasn't too good, with distal limbs shot in many victims. Huddled bodies in lockdowns usually reveal more fatal head/COM shots in other such mass killings.

Seriously??? there are always undecided voters, and they may be more than ever going into this election.

If every voter has made up their mind then why would Trump and Harris still be spending $$$ campaigning?

Again...... It is not going to be us here on NES or the loyal MSNBC viewer that are going to decide this election.

I don't think comparing to Chicago's GSW survival rate is appropriate. Chicago is such a warzone that their first responders and ER doctors could train military medics.

Yeah, I think the left's policies have been so spectacularly failing that even the masses can see it.

I don't think this lasted very long. All indications are that the SROs engaged as soon as they could; the term "immediate" was used. If you read between the lines of what some of the students are saying, by the time they sought cover there were already cops in the hallways outside. I'm sure a few diagrams will come out soon enough, but I'll be surprised if anyone had all that much time to "huddle" in this incident.

It does confirm the long-held suspicion that most school shooters who are confronted by a locked door will move on, even if there is nothing but a window in their way. That makes this yet another shooting in which the "he's gonna shoot the lock!" scenarios failed to materialize.

School shooters of any age are not fighters, they're cowards. They'll usually seek the path of least resistance.

I know plwnty of f***ed up families, they are not gearing up to shoot up schools.

Still amazes me with so many people shot on LEO thoughts and feelings of threat of gun that a achool shooter with. Gun when confronted does not get at list a mags worth in their direction .

Its Sad …..the Evil is always present
We will never know when it will surface and act out.

Also Sad is Billions to other countries so they can kill each other and yet still no funding for school security for “the children”

How about “we” stop shipping billions all over the world. That could help pay for schools. What could schools do with the $100 billion + sent to Ukraine ?

You realize none of that is real money, right?

That $100b would never have gotten printed for schools, and if it did, it would just inflate the currency more.

And like clock work it gets posted here.

Stop posting this shit, people. The media makes money off the clicks and the media also turns these losers into little evil celebrities

Edit: engrish
I disagree. The super sleuths here will have the kid's facetockgram page up soon, I'm responding to post 16. Let's see if I'm right a day after the event.

If we leave it to the media, he'll be a right wing, Trump supporter, no matter what's on his social media.

Today, it's 2 teachers a SPED kid and someone else. Doesn't sound gang related, wondering if the teachers were the target. I'll keep reading, let's see what's in this thread.

Reminds me of a kid in my town who was always walking the streets, acting erratic, talking to himself or yelling at people. Police called numerous times, but said they had no reason to arrest because I guess he didn’t actually assault or threaten anyone. He eventually went into the town library and stabbed a girl to death. By all rights the kid should have been in a psychiatric ward. Both of his parents knew of his behavior and how it was becoming more erratic. A lot of people in my town wanted to blame the police, but from what I read they had no power to do anything based on his behavior.

Schools have many, many access points. Putting a metal detector at each is probably unaffordable. It’s cost-benefit.

Metal detectors are also FAR from foolproof.

Finally, most schools make a conscious choice NOT to install these. They come with problems and concerns that few schools enjoy dealing with.
It looks bad. You aren't going to have high income earners sending their kids to schools with metal detectors. Look at New Orleans, where people fight to get into the magnet schools, or take on 2nd and 3rd jobs to pay for private schools.
ALL Federal and State police officers operating in a state should be held to the same firearms laws as the regular citizen without exception.
Hold up a minute, maybe in your state, every state I was a fed in was pretty gun friendly.
This time, you may. The kid was taken alive; there'll be a trial, with discovery.
He could plea out to avoid the death penalty, if it's even sought in this case, which I doubt. Still, a plea is the best case scenario for him, so no trial.
But I've got news for you: A LOT of 12-year-olds say a lot of dumb things about what they want to do. I'm sure it's hard to sort through the chaff and figure out who's serious.
If the FBI had sacked this kid up a year ago, 2/3rds of this forum would be up in arms about 'due process' and all that jibber jabber.

They investigated, they found what you state, a 12 year old with flapping lip disease. Putting the cuffs on requires more than that, for all we know they sat down with the dad and said, 'keep this crap locked up so we don't have to come back', and dad dropped the ball.

As well they should be. You can’t arrest people for a “pre-crime” yet, mostly anyway😉.

Predicting if and when a person is going to commit violent crime is impossible. I’m not necessarily giving Fart Barf and an Itch a pass here. We will never know the details but at the end of the day you can’t predict when a person will commit a violent crime and you can’t arrest someone who hasn’t actually committed a crime.

As others have said; Ireally don’t understand this school shooting thing and what happened in society to make them so prevelant. When I grew up the guns were in the corner of the closet and the ammo was on the shelf above them. Same for my friends. There was total unrestricted access to weapons and ammo yet there were no school shootings like there are today.

I don’t understand what changed but something sure did and access to guns isn’t the problem, as we all well know.

Militant feminism, absent fatherhood, what they puttin in the water these days, Soros and the media machine teaching you to hate your neighbors, teachers teaching you to try out genders like outfits, etc. Did Democrats back in the 70s-80s hate Reagan the same way they salivate over the thought of Trump in a concrete cell block?

Good idea. Maybe we could borrow some of the 450 billion bucks they are now spending annually on the migrants.

Amen.

When we used to set up the metal detectors (inner city school) damn near every student set it off with their jewelry and had to be wanded. It took forever to get them in and there were always some students that would run out back and open the doors to let their friends in. It’s like herding cats.
Uh, how bout we ban jewelry from being worn to school so to smooth out the process ? Ain't a fashion show. What was it that the Dems always say...." if it saves just one childs life"....
