First school shooting of the fall

I wish we could actually work to address this, but I doubt it will happen.

1. Guns are not the issue (duh). If it's not guns, it will be knives... If not knives, something else.
2. The causes are mental and/or family situations. And there are likely patterns to it...
3. We shouldn't just try to stop shootings with stuff like metal detectors, resource officers etc... we should better equip schools to identify and treat the kids themselves. Do you know how many schools don't even have a full-time counselor? Or there's one counselor for 2,000 kids? Or they can't operate after school programs because of budget? Schools operate on too few resources - we need to stop complaining about our taxes going up $100 a year and actually give more resources to schools.
How about we do a better job with the money the schools already get.

Private schools produce a better student on average for less money

It's usually not the teachers, it the administration and failure to manage costs.

And parents need to stop relying on government schools to raise their children.

What do we know about the family at this stage?

See the articles linked in post 126 above. Mother and father are apparently real prizes. Meth addicts, abusers, thieves. Sounds like the kid was subjected to a crap life. I’m not taking the blame off of him, but, he was raised in a household where apparently chaos and violence were the norm. I would be shocked if he wasn’t on some meds.

So where did the infamous AR-15 come from?

I don’t know. I’ll guess and say that when the police asked the junkie father what he had for firearms he just said “some hunting rifles,” and they didn’t explore the issue further when he said the kid didn’t have access to them. I know the mother had a record for drug trafficking and car theft. I don’t know if the father had an actual record. From the articles it sounded like he was not a stranger to having run-ins with the police.

Almost the exact quote from the CNN article I just read.

In May 2023, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the FBI about a threat on the chat platform Discord to “shoot up a middle school tomorrow,” according to an investigation report obtained through a public records request

The FBI tip referenced a Discord account created the previous month with an email address that the bureau had associated with Gray. The tip included photo attachments with a profile name in Russian that translated to Adam Lanza – the gunman who killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

Investigators wrote that they interviewed Colt and his father, Colin Gray, at their then-home in Jefferson – about 13 miles northeast of Winder, the site of Wednesday’s school shooting.

Colt, who was 13 during the interview, said “someone is accusing him of threatening to shoot up a school, stating that he would never say such a thing, even in a joking manner,” Jackson County sheriff’s investigator Daniel Miller Jr. wrote.

Colin Gray told investigators he had hunting rifles in the house and said, “Colt is allowed to use them when supervised but does not have unfettered access to them,” the report said.

“ Colt assured me that he never made any threats to shoot up any school,” Miller wrote. “I urged Colin to keep his firearms locked away, and advised him to keep Colt out of school until this matter could be resolved.”

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but the shooter's aunt says the kid has mental issues and was begging for help that never came.

The 14-year-old arrested after a mass killing at Georgia’s Apalachee High School had been “begging for months” for mental health help before he allegedly carried out a deadly attack Wednesday, according to an aunt of the shooting suspect.

He “was begging for help from everybody around him,” Annie Brown, the aunt, told The Washington Post. “The adults around him failed him.”

Brown, who lives in Central Florida, declined to elaborate on the teen’s mental health challenges but said she tried from afar to get him help. She said his struggles were exacerbated by a difficult home life. He and his family had “previous contacts” with the local child services department, Chris Hosey, the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said at a news conference Wednesday night.

That tracks for that area... unfortunately

In unrelated news, the new Mass Gun Bill will limit University Campus Police to 10 round magazines. How about those apples?🍏
I want to send my Alama mata a random
10 round magazine but I really don’t want to bust their balls. They were unarmed for many years once confronted an armed suspect in a car emptying their OC spray cans and beat the crap out of the guy with their expandable batons. A year so later they were armed. Had a medical once on campus the campus police jumped right in and didn’t play. Besides the wise ass comment “ever see an ambulance before” my nursing classmate was an EMT B on a major EMS service lol 😂.

Never busted my balls when I was on campus. Pretty much just went after muppets.

I am sure they are complying with the “spirit” of the law.

Looks like another trans shooter.
Yes. And if mentioned more than a few times, this will be a short news cycle. Again, so...so..sad for those poor kids because state or fed leaders won't lead. It will just be about the AR-15 and the gun lobby and blood on our hands. I remember some years ago, there was a shooting of some sort in Kalifornia and at the press conference one of the little "Church Mouse" reporters asked the Chief " Uh, do you know if he used an AR-15?? No concern for victim(s), just the "agenda".

You guys wanna hear something really f***ed up think about this my body armor like and Afghan rifle , drop three times and never used

Right, I knew the father said that about the hunting rifles from the article. He likely said that to get the police off his case about scary black guns and probably just yessed the police until they left.

Sounds like from the aunt that the kid had some really bad mental problems that weren’t being addressed by the parents. It’s a shame that he couldn’t have talked with someone and gotten help before attacking other people.

Obligatory school shooting post that everyone hates. But I’ll never stop emphasizing. If you send your kids to a public school that doesn’t have armed teachers. I will never believe you love your kids.

I would wager that more US citizens per year play the powerball when it’s over a billion dollars than US citizens have children. And the citizens that play powerball even that one time per year spend a couple hours that day thinking “ok, if I win, I need a lawyer, an accountant. I need to take the winnings anonymously, I need to give money to my family but not to my kids so they grow up spoiled. I need to pay off my debts, buy the church a new cathedral etc etc..”. But when you ask that same person with a kid “how did you choose that school? They say “city-data.com said it was the best I could afford”. You ask “that trans teacher teacher with neck long purple hair and a cock. Would you trust that person alone with your kids for the weekend while you went on vacation? They would reply “f*** no”. If you spend more time per year thinking about how you would spend your powerball winnings then what you’ve done to make sure that if a school shooter walks in RIGHT NOW what will be done to make sure your kid doesn’t get shot. Sure, tell me you love that kid. I don’t f***ing believe you.

I know what my dad did. He was a cop. Columbine happened, he pulled me out of school. Showed me how to shoot his gun. Mom became my teacher. If someone comes into this house with an intent to hurt you. You don’t hide like a coward and listen to mom bang on the door scream for help. You f***ing protect mom.

I don't think this lasted very long. All indications are that the SROs engaged as soon as they could; the term "immediate" was used. If you read between the lines of what some of the students are saying, by the time they sought cover there were already cops in the hallways outside. I'm sure a few diagrams will come out soon enough, but I'll be surprised if anyone had all that much time to "huddle" in this incident.

Six minutes from the first alert to the shooter surrendering. From the incidents I've been taught about, that's about the norm. This "panic button" thing the teachers had is about to become a great stock to buy.

Just from looking at the building on Google and taking a look at its enrollment numbers, I would be surprised if every person on that campus even heard the shots. It's likely that most of the school community didn't know what was going on; they'd have just heard the alarm and barricaded the doors, as the drills say they should. By the time that was done, the whole thing was already over.

I know plwnty of f***ed up families, they are not gearing up to shoot up schools.

That.

Take the definition of mass shootings where 4+ are killed or injured - that topped out at under 700 in 2021. So, one in 1/2 million were mass shooters, which is 2 in a million, or 2 parts-per-million (2ppm). Sure, chemists can measure 2ppm of lead in water.

But can psychologists measure 2ppm of crazy in people? About 25% of mass killers had been under the care of mental health professionals and 70%+ had been officially diagnosed with mental health issues. Well, 25% is 250,000ppm. So, trying to catch 2ppm mass killers when psychologists miss 250,000ppm is tragically hopeless. Like 99.9992% wrong…

If NASA was that good, we’d have colonies living on Mars by now.

Uh, how bout we ban jewelry from being worn to school so to smooth out the process ? Ain't a fashion show. What was it that the Dems always say...." if it saves just one childs life"....
How about not having metal detectors and security at schools. It's idiotic. We never had that crap when I went to school. It just teaches people to be
compliant with arbitrary search and seizure.
