Guide To Gun Rights in your MA Town - 2020 + Edition

As of this week it's with the FRB. Does that mean that the local PD cleared it and now it just needs to be printed and mailed?

This is my wife's renewal and she doesn't want to make waves. Me, I will not play nice - submitted my renewal SEVEN months early in December and I'm going to hound them for it. Completely unacceptable that it's taking this long.
I'm 7 months too, my house goes on the market March 4th getting out of this state!!!

Dropped off my renewal on 18 Dec. Just called DCJIS - my PD didn't even enter the application until February. They're supposed to issue it within 40 days and they took longer than that just to get it into the system. Wow!
It's. Still. With. The. PD.

Frankly, I don't care THAT much, as I can still carry after my LTC expires, and I can understand that they apparently have had a massive number of applicants, but it's mind boggling that they're blatantly ignoring the law. What actually does annoy me is that they once again told me that post-expiration I can carry but I can't purchase, which is blatantly false (@Len-2A Training can correct me if I'm wrong). Oh well, I'm not about to sue them so I'll keep on waiting.

finally received my renewal 9 months! good luck

Hi All,

Any word on Methuen ? I have a friend that is, shall we say, getting a bit concerned about the 'Immigrant Hotel' nearby and would like to know any pitfalls in town.

Thanks !

LTC is finally approved and awaiting printing. By the time it gets to the PD and they call me to pick it up, I might be past the 6mo mark.

Stoneham, MA

Quite the doozy... Bold for highlights. Absolute clusterf***. I blame the state more so than anyone else. Local PD was awesome throughout the process - very cordial and conscientious.

Total days from prints to card in hand: 143

12/01/2023 - request for appointment with Stoneham PD (figerprints, etc)

12/13/2023 - PD call back for appointment schedule

01/13/2024 - PD Fingerprint date, 10 weeks turnaround time per processing officer

03/18/2024 - 1st call to FRB, said they never received application, were extremely rude

03/18/2024 - 1st call to SPD, provided an update from MIRCS, approved pending FRB activation

03/22/2024 - 10 week target date per LEO comes and goes

04/01/2024 - 04/12/2024 - check with FRB hotline 2x weekly, in a polite manner

04/12/2024 - "Activated pending delivery" per FRB

04/16/2024 - 05/28/2024 - Calls to FRB hotline (2x weekly), FRB themselves (two calls), and local PD (three calls). All polite, never sounding like I was annoyed.

05/15/2024 - Call to Jason Guida's office to explore legal options. Rather than answer, he brushed me off saying he "doesn't have a magic wand" and was generally c***y.

06/03/2024 - 15th call to FRB, got someone who knew what they were doing and indicated the license was mailed back in April (LMAO)

06/03/2024 - Left a message at SPD indicating the FRB said it was mailed in April

06/04/2024 - Callback from SPD that they have the license, was received on 6/3

06/04/2024 - Picked up LTC from local PD, verified it on the transaction portal once home

send this to your state rep along with a copy of the law showing the 40 day deadline, and comment that even the 143 days is atypical and in most cases it's much longer.
Then give him a simple and specific question to answer "Why are police chiefs routinely permitted to violate the law with no consequences? If they routinely disregard this law, what do you think are the chances they disregard other laws when it suites them?"

Don't make it about 2a, make it about the Chiefs ignoring the Legislature.

My foreman just had his interview/prints appointment in Lynn.
Was told he needed to come back in 2 weeks to review his application before it's submitted.
Then told 6mos until LTC ready. WTF

I musta missed it.... Weymouth moved to Green yet?
I wouldn't say green per say. They do issue now but it still took me 6 months from sending the app in until I got the card. But as long as you have the paperwork and follow up you should get it. They still drag their feet and stretch the process out but do eventually issue. At least that was my experience with the process back in 22/23.

My question about gun law is recently i just purchased a extra 22lr upper for my ar15 and it came with a muzzle device just screw in, now my question is do it need to pin and weld it?

ak this in the general forum, this one is specifically for licensing by town questions

My daughter just got hers today. (LTC renewal) This was the first time in a different town (Greenfield) and it was under a month. To be fair, she knows PD and Fire in her hometown and Greenfield so she has plenty of references.

Saw recently two student of mine get LTC's in less than 4 weeks.

Arlington, brand new US citizen, applied for LTC after being sworn in, received in hand 2 1/2 weeks later.
Wellesley, first time applicant, LTC in hand in under 4 weeks.

Meanwhile in Lowell:

A recent safety course student had an appointment with the Lowell PD to apply for his LTC scheduled for late September. They called him and rescheduled to 10/23. Yes. The effective day of the new laws. They hung up on him before he could ask any questions.

Maybe this is just a coincidence because someone got sick and they have to push everyone out to later dates, or maybe they deliberately rescheduled to force him to wait and to take the new course with all the new requirements.

I'm guessing the latter. Not clear if the Lowell PD thought that up on their own, or if someone from the state told them to do it.
