Making an SBR

Just like the title says I want to Sbr one of my sig mcxs. How do I do this and what forms do I need to fill out. Thanks!

Go to the BATF website, their instructions are pretty clear and easy to understand.

if you would have typed this question in Google, you would have gotten 2.7 trillion hits.

I use Silencer Shop. You can do a one shot trust but I’d recommend just spending $125 for the regular NFA trust because your NFA family will grow. SS has a decent online software platform that manages all of your filings. They will prepare the Form 1 for you and help you through the process. You’ll need to go to a SS kiosk or otherwise upload digital fingerprints and a photo of yourself. They explain everything. It’s easy. You’ll need to go to an NFA engraver to engrave the name and city of your trust on the receiver. I do mine under the trigger guard. A good engraver will tell you your options.

I used a trust. Very easy to fill out the paper work.
You'll need digital finger prints, you can find a UPS store and get them done.
Passport photo
Atf website sign in
Fill out form 1 & responsible person form, $200
Submit
I had my approval in 5 days.
Get it engraved at the Mill

1) Go to ATF website and fill out the interactive SBR form.
2) get fingerprinted and local PD and have them give you a file that ATF wants(it's on the ARF form instructions).
3) pay the $200 to ATF on the website
4) Once completed and approved, take the gun to a gunsmith to them to engrave the SBR stuff on the lower and upper

You're done.

Why in the f*** would you advise someone to use the PD for fingerprints RE an SBR!?!? Talk about involving folks you don't need/want to involve in your life.

Don’t use a trust. Takes forever.
Sign up an account on the atf website.
Get your fingerprints done digitally at print scan. They set you up at a local ups store that does finger prints on a machine and they email you a file the ATF will accept.
Watch a you tube video on how to fill the form out. Very helpful. Fill out your app online. Upload your prints, license, serial #. Pay the $200 extortion fee and wait a few weeks for the gods to approve you.

Dude. Stop giving bad and incorrect advice. Tell me you don’t have a SBR without telling me you don’t have a SBR.
You don’t engrave the upper (assuming an AR). Jesus Christ

Maura - go to SBRs ‘R Us. Grab a burger and fries while they do their ish and watch questionable content in the lobby.

Remember; This is "Northeast" Shooters and not the "Massachusetts" Shooters (forum).
(everyone seems to think the latter). Contrary to that, the world does not revolve around Massachusetts ;) (thankfully).

There are members here that live in states where we can have SBR's and some other nice toys (at least for now....).

:)

While the trust can have other benefits it’s a PITA if you have multiple people listed on it as they all must submit the info for purchases.
My SBR is trusted but my can is individually owned.
Maine Military Supply did all the paperwork for a reasonable fee.

Best of both worlds -- one trust per item.

Buy a tried-and-true NFA trust, call the first copy "Salt I" for your SBR, then make a fresh copy and call it "Salt II" for your can, etc. Other than the notary, there is no cost to setting up additional trusts (in my state, YMMV).

Got approved in 2-3 weeks I think
Had it engraved more local to me than the mill.

Super easy
I got my prints done at Dean Safety as well. Sam (Mill Gun Shop; same location as Dean) did the application for me. Got approved in 4 days.

Im in a free state and not sure why anyone would go thru the hassle SBR over just doing a pistol with no paperwork or fees.

Edit....but I get it if you want a full collapsable stock, can and other features...which now if I finish it I will likely go thru the process of SBR as well.

It's been a long time since I did an SBR, but back then not may places offered to do prints. I had my prints done at my local PD. They even asked if I had the right print cards because sometimes the ATF had issues if they didn't get them on the right cards. I handed him my ATF cards, he loaded them up in the scanner and printed 2 sets for me. That was many years ago though and the licensing officer was a really cool dude.

An AR would be the lower only, but it all depends on what is being SBR'd and what is the serialized/registered firearm part.

Some people want the ability to use suppressors on sbr platforms with rifle stocks instead of braces.

I'm in a free state and have done multiples stamps. It's actually pretty simple to go that route. Once you do your first, you realize it's a pretty basic & routine process.
