Sweet Dennis, Looks like she's retained most of her finish and the stock looks gorgeous. I couldn't tell by the picture, low or high serial number? She must have set you back a bit[wink]

Hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee she is, my bran spankin' new Savage 93R17-BVTS ( With Simmons 3-9X 40 'scope. ) [smile]

Went up to the Dick's in Keene for this one. The lead salesman in the Lodge, Rob really went the extra mile for me. He set one with the dark stock aside for me at my request and when I commented about the 'scope feeling too low for me mounted a taller set of Millet rings so I could check out the difference (Of course, I went with the more comfortablle fit and got the taller rings.)

There's another story about some rust on the bolt and a nicked crown but, let's just say I left with a perfect rifle with the stock I wanted. [wink]

I just HAD TO stop by the range and try this baby out on the way home. A couple sighters at 50 yards to roughly zero the glass and then I put five rounds into a about a 1 1/2 " group at 100 yards off an improvised rest. (My range bag.)

Of course I didn't have my camera, just the cell phone so I'll have some better picks up in a while.

Me so happy. [smile]

That's a nice lookin' rifle.

I'm surprised that a Dick's employee helped you out so much, every experience I've had with Dick's employees has been EXTREMELY negative.

I have to be honest here. I bought my 10/22 from the Natick store, and the Chap went above and beyond to help me out. C-pher was always great in N. Attleboro. He would "force" me to check out the rifles [smile]. The only problems I've had was at the checkout, or if no one was in the Lodge to get me ammo (which does happen too often).

Jon,

Yes, I have an Official Police in .22LR. It's got the 6" barrel, too.

I have two Police Positive Specials (.38 Special) and one Official Police .38 S&W. I love old Colts... [wink]

I think Colt will do the research but it will cost you $$$...

Somehow I knew you'd like this one, Jay[wink]
Call dibs all you want but I think you'll have to fight my boy for it. "Cool six shooter dad. When you gonna teach me how to shoot it? I'll call in sick someday I don't have to work." said he. Brought a tear to my eye[smile]

You have one in .22 don't you? I haven't checked but do you know if Colt has a research service like S&W?

Ahhh okay, that makes more sense.

Interesting, the one in Plymouth has two old d-bags that work in the lodge that never want to help and have no idea what they're doing or talking about. My father and I were trying to get a gun case down off a high shelf and about 5 of them fell off and hit the floor with a loud, resounding crash. Several employees walked by, looked at us, looked at the cases strewn about and said nothing.

Then I bought a bike from the Danvers one and the guy didn't tighten the handle bars enough, I almost fell and split my head open.

SORRY FOR THE THREAD DRIFT!! Dick's just pisses me off!![angry2]

Oh a friend of a friend... you know the drill! [wink] I wasn't really in the market for it at all but it was a deal I couldn't pass up as you don't see too many in the state. It was filthy when I got it, but a little cleaner and a few patches and you wouldn't even know it's been shot... It's immaculate

I stopped by Collector's Guns in Stoneham today. My blessing (or curse) is that it is on the same block as my office. I was not looking for a gun, cannot afford another gun, do not need another gun yadda, yadda! A fellow was looking at a beautiful S&W and as I eyed it I kept saying to myself, "please buy it, please buy it". He did not buy it. When he left I heroically paid for the brushes and cleaning solvent that I had planned on getting and prepared to leave. At the last second I finally asked to see it. It had literally been brought in for consignment within the hour. It was meant for me! So here it is,

S&W Model 24-3 Lew Horton special in .44 special. It has a 3" barrel and an extended cylinder release latch. Also has one sweet trigger. Made 1984 - 85. Original box and all papers.

Nice stuff, Jay. Looks like Colts are passed over from what I see. They don't command the prices of older S&Ws. This is only my first[smile]
I did find the link to the Colt research service. They want $75 to look up my OP.
Thanks for the info.
